My opinion: I love these entries into the market because I personally think graphics in most desktop circumstances are best left discrete due to the sheer progress we've made in making them more efficient and cool running. These passive cards get me in the spirit as I've said I want to in the past of creating my own fully passive PC that gets all its air flow from a single high quality fan rather than needing a fan on every component in the case.

 

Given the current terrible value of the RX 550 I hope this competition gives me some more entry-level toys to play with.

At 384 CUDA cores it should be around half the performance of a 1050 which is still quite ahead of the latest Intel iGPU and as for AMD, they haven't announced their APUs yet.

Would it be faster than the GTX 750 tho? I mean the HD 6200 isn't too far off a 750 so... :P

I've seen LP cards with detachable VGA or DVI ports, but aside from that scenario I'm happy to see them gone. They're bulkier and technology has moved on.

I'm not sure if these support them but sometimes you just need a cheap GPU for connectivity or features.

 

For example my one of my buddies just needed a really cheap card that had HDMI 2.0 for his HTPC.

 

There's also DisplayPort 1.4 and x265 as a couple more examples. These cards really aren't meant for gaming.

Low end cards are often used in systems that have no iGPUs (like servers/NAS/etc) but still need display outputs for diagnostic/setup reasons. VGA displays are still very common in those environments.

Having issues with a Corsair AIO? Possible fix here:

Are you getting weird fan behavior, speed fluctuations, and/or other issues with Link?

Are you running AIDA64, HWinfo, CAM, or HWmonitor? (ASUS suite & other monitoring software often have the same issue.)

Corsair Link has problems with some monitoring software so you may have to change some settings to get them to work smoothly.

-For AIDA64: First make sure you have the newest update installed, then, go to Preferences>Stability and make sure the "Corsair Link sensor support" box is checked and make sure the "Asetek LC sensor support" box is UNchecked.

-For HWinfo: manually disable all monitoring of the AIO sensors/components.

-For others: Disable any monitoring of Corsair AIO sensors.

That should fix the fan issue for some Corsair AIOs (H80i GT/v2, H110i GTX/H115i, H100i GTX and others made by Asetek). The problem is bad coding in Link that fights for AIO control with other programs. You can test if this worked by setting the fan speed in Link to 100%, if it doesn't fluctuate you are set and can change the curve to whatever. If that doesn't work or you're still having other issues then you probably still have a monitoring software interfering with the AIO/Link communications, find what it is and disable it.

HTPC's. Decent hardware decoding and HDMI 2.0 are really nice to have in that application (assuming of course these have HDMI 2.0).

I had a GT 710 for a while.

 

It was awful.

 

If this has half the performance of the 1050 and my 1050 is as good (actually slightly better) than a GTX 970...

HDMI is just as common or even more common now.
