Samsung and LG have been developing this for a long, long time (iirc LG was the first one who introduced the concept), OP using it doesn't dictate anything, not even close. They are getting bigger, but they are not that big of a player.

OnePlus has had face unlock on their phones for a while now. I even got an update that added face unlock on my OP3, but I don't use it.

Yeah some androids have had it but it was always sorta janky. The iPhone X faceID isn't perfect by any means but is noticeably faster and works more consistently

Dont you have to move the camera so your face is "in frame"? I have my phone sitting off to my side on a desk and I often find it to be simple; as im picking it up to point it on my face to unlock the phone with the reader on the back before the front camera would ever really have a chance to see my face well, but maybe I'm just used to the fingerprint after a year and a half (S8+) In order for me to unlock it with my face (that kinda sounds weird) id have to lean across my desk

beyond that. if the phone is flat on a desk in front of you your face has to be nearly parallel to the phone for it to register.

it doesn't work at an angle.

Yet another reason why I don't buy anything from OnePlus. Even Sony realized this is a bad way to do business.

 

I'm more interested in the S10 and it's ultrasonic fingerprint readers. Much more secure, better technology. Those phones are really shaping up to be something.

Hopefully the Note10 is as mind blowing.

Samsung and LG have been developing this for a long, long time (iirc LG was the first one who introduced the concept), OP using it doesn't dictate anything, not even close. They are getting bigger, but they are not that big of a player.

Samsung who makes the iphonex display has obviously had the technology for a little while but cost is a factor, they have to bend the screen around to achieve that affect

This is cool technology though. I actually might hold off upgrading until this is the norm again. Fingerprint security is the by far the most convenient while still being fairly secure.

I have an iPhone X, Face ID is cool and quick, but it's a pain having to lift it up to a suitable angle to unlock, I much preferred Touch ID.
