The Steam Link app, slated to launch the week of May 21st, allows gamers to experience their Steam library of games on their Android (phone, tablet, TV) and iOS-based (iPhone, iPad, Apple TV) devices while connected via 5Ghz network or wired Ethernet to a host system (Mac or PC), with Android access initially offered in beta. The Steam Link App will feature support for the Steam Controller, MFI controllers, and more across both platforms.

This is pretty huge imo. I've never been a huge fan of game streaming, but I'm really interested to see how this will work, or if it'll have any sort of touch screen controls for point and click styled games or jrpgs/civ.

I've never really watched any movies on steam so can't comment on that yet.

But what if you don't have 5GHz tho? Is that just not going to work? 

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

I'd assume it either wouldnt work, or may just be unplayable depending on the game.

Considering SteamLink boxes can't be all that powerful to begin with, I can't see why this wouldn't work well with any modern phone. Very interested!

My guess is that if you run on 2.4 it just have latency issues.

should just be similar to the Current steam link thats been out for a long time. Linus reviewed it.

I don't see why they didn't do this first.  A SteamLink box is really, JUST A BOX, it does ONE thing, Steam.  But an Apple TV or Android Box already has access to NetFlix, Amazon, YouTube and countless other entertainment options and with an app you can just also do Steam IHS on it.  All one a single box instead of using the SteamLink as an ADDITIONAL box.

You know with a steam link you can just mirror your desktop right?

will buy one of those controllers/stand for my phone if it playing warframe on it is a breeze at 720p

If I wanted the desktop experience of multimedia services, through a browser, where there is no 10 foot interface and there is an assumption that a mouse will be used, I'll use my desktop.  There is a REASON why TV boxes, game consoles, and smart TVs themselves have entirely different interface systems than desktop operating systems.

I second that. I've managed to play AAA-titles on ultra settings remotely with moonlight on my macbook.. Without any major issues.

So they just killed all Nvidia Shields. You can just get an Apple TV 4K for cheaper and airplay when you wanna game.

Did you know you can actually plug in an ethernet cable to an iPhone (with the right adapters) and it works?

little known feature of iOS.

I mean it does support data transfer through the lighting port so yeah it would work xD Basically the reverse of what iPhone does when its being used as a hotspot on a wired connection.

Also works on Android, with the right adapter.

 

That's the issue. You need the right adapter AND the right version of Android (older ones, up to a certain point, don't support it).

 

So any modern android phone should be able to. The issue is the adapter, android ones support a specific set of phones only, so maybe this adapter supports a few samsung/lg/xiaomi phones and that other adapter only supports huawei/htc/sony.

 

It's really dumb. Really, really dumb.

 

I think you need higher than 4.4? Maybe Android 5.0 or so, can't remember.

 

edit: oh it's even dumber because they only support *some* models of each manufacturer....

I don't know if you're joking or not but I don't think it will work on a Chromebook. Chrome OS doesn't run executable files unless you use an app that allows it. It might work if you boot your Chromebook to linux (its possible). If you're joking, I know your pain 

The only reason I'm here is that I have homework that I don't want to do
