ah yes old Deell mobos :P

Those pins on the top left are for an expansion module for more pci slots. My dell Dimension 4000 mobo has the extension.

It runs hot AF though.

I wish I hadn't moved so often in my life.  I would still have my wall of 8086's and 8088's, with 20 and 40mb hard drives, all using original dimm connected Model M keyboards.  I ran a BBS off one of them.

This is something I'd love to see a segment on.  Pre-internet social media.  BBSs were huge at one time.  I could give you quite the history lesson.

Cherry ML4100 with ML switches. Picked it up today in a random bunch of other keyboards for $15. Like the way it feels, but need to get used to the spacing of the keys, lol. It's a bit like the reds on my K70 but with a bit of feedback on engagement and require a bit more force.

It's an older model though, has the DIN connector with ps2 adapter. So tiny next to the K70. :)

Not the oldest motherboard I have, but surely one of the more odd.

This is a Tyan Tiger Dual socket motherboard. It sports two AMD opteron CPUs, each one single core, don't remember how fast they run, but not too fast...
It is roughly comparable to a Raspberry Pi.

Except it has 2GB of RAM, so yay I guess?

It also consumes far more energy and is more useful as a space heater rather then as a computer....

And considering that it is a server motherboard, it might not be too great for gaming either. Especially since all the RAM is going to one processor, so the other one needs to ask for permission to use it per say.

Well, it does have some practicality, like being a space heater.

Though, it is far behind in performance compared to my other dual CPU systems, though they are in a league of their own per say....
And probably a bit too modern for being retro.
Blades.thumb.jpg.cea87934574fd197bd32dc88afbd5fe3.jpg

And they do have rather noisy fans in comparison, though noise isn't too unexpected per say since it does sound a bit like a quad copter on steroids taking off...

This was my father's system before I upgraded it, it runs Intel Core 2 Duo E7500 on a mATX ECS G41T-M12 v.1.0 motherboard with dual chanel DDR3 2x1Gb RAM. He got it from his office. The warranty stickers are still there untouched on the motherboard, was expired since 2013.

Still runs strong and steady, hope it will be last much longer after I gave it a new case with better airflow, CPU cooler and thermal paste, add a GTX 750 Ti GPU, and SSD.

Sounds about on-par with my Athlon MP system.

It's got an Asus dual socket board, two Athlon MP 2000+ CPUs, and a whole 2GB of ECC memory. Luckily, there is an AGP slot present on the board so GPU upgrading from my current one isn't going to be too big of a problem, provided I can find a good AGP card. I don't think my RAM only goes to one CPU, though.

The kind of motherboard usually has no bearing on performance. That comes down to the memory and processors(central and graphical).

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
        In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
        In Flanders fields.

Can I marry you, servers?

HOLY CRAP.

A SIX. BLADED. FAN.

MIND. BLOWN.

Anyways, got specs?

Well, the system that these fans goes to uses 10 of them, each one drawing a whopping 160 watts... (So that is a decent computer in and off itself...)
Though, they can cool 16 blade servers, each one able to have two CPUs, with whatever socket the motherboard in the servers support.
But these systems I have are rather boring quad core CPUs, running at around 2-2.5 GHz. With typically 6 GB of RAM per CPU. In this case spread onto three ram channels on the 1366 sockets that the blades use.

But as long as one doesn't go above the max TDP of the blade, one can practically stuff in all the performance one wants, downside being that it is freaking expensive, takes 14 U of rack space, sounds like a literal jet plane taking off, wants a proper cooling setup in the room (mostly for one's own budget...), and it then also consumes the better part of 15 KW. So three phase power is a requirement. And then its price to performance ratio is horrid if one only has a handful of blades, due to the enclosure housing them being large, heavy and expensive. Then it kinda requires a dual power supply setup to be "happy", this though not being off the shelf ATX power supplies, but rather hot swappable, system specific power supplies that in themselves costs more then one at times wants to part with.

And after setting everything up, one still doesn't have a comfortable way of hooking up a screen to it... Not to mention that networking is a real drag. I don't know why, but not all blades comes with integrated networking connections on the board, so one needs to buy a separate daughterboard for it, while other blades have dual Gigabit Ethernet as a standard... And yes, the on board networking and the one being a daughterboard doesn't use the same pass-through to the networking blades on the back of the system. So suddenly one needs a slew of different networking related blades as well... At least FC pass-through is dead simple.

So blade systems are interesting to work with at times.

Dunno if anyone has helped yet, but what I am almost positive you have there is a Pentium 233mmx processor, or possibly a 200.  The numbers represented their speed in mhz. It works with a socket 7 board which were the most common processor and board of its era in the mid to late 90s.  This was back when a 10gb hd was lot, everyone had floppy disks and CD roms, and an awesome system had 512mb of ram.

Pretty sure my wall clock has more processing power.  (Old Samsung Intensity is my clock..android 3 I believe)

Thanks for posting this!!  I'd love to see more.  Really takes me back to when I was the go-to guy for all pc problems.  I used to have a knack for these.  I could diagnose these machines literally by their boot speed and when the drive made a sound.  I wish I had kept up better.
