Well it is not mint, it probably is worth something. I think its probably in a plastic tote, too much work to organize it all, maybe one day there will be one big ranch auction.

You're dead right 1366 X58 chipset.  Working, used, branded mobos are still fetching 100+ on fleabag.  Though i just put a cheeky offer in on an unbranded new 1366 motherboard that's located in the UK.  If i get that for what i offered it could open the door to some even older hardware for me :)

Server boards are usually cheaper than desktop X58 boards.

A few of the people over in our X58 thread could probably help you: https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/842134-general-x58-xeoni7-discussion/

Cable managing old PC cases and old boards is hard. Who the hell puts the power connector toward the LEFT side of the board?

System specs:

P5K Pro Mobo

Q6600 OCed to 3.0 GHz (Quad core!)

4 GB DDR2 800 Ram

NX8800GTS GPU. This thing runs hot as hell, even at idle, even after I replaced the thermal goop. Thing idles at 52ish with the fan at 50%. Yes, I cleaned the fan, yes I cleaned the heatsink. It's just.... hot.

Luckily, the system is silent at idle. The loudest fan is the CPU fan which will be replaced soon (this heatsink is slightly broken. One of the 4 "clips" doesn't "clip" correctly. Cools well regardless.) Even with all the fans at 100% (other than the CPU fan) the system is not loud at all. That surprised me considering they are all 80 mm fans. Turns out if you buy decent fans they're pretty quiet.

Retro case FTW.

(Yes, that IS a floppy drive. yes it DOES work, and YES it is hooked up.) :)

EDIT: No, that is NOT the password. That was from the previous owner. Also the USB3 doesn't work yet, I have a USB 3 card on order.

I meant to share this earlier, but things got hectic and I couldn't get around to mucking with it again but this was my late summer project: building a gaming PC that would've been such around 2000 or so.

DSC01245.thumb.JPG.fe3f004b59c8504fcecc75d174535fb0.JPG

The case, PSU, fans, and the light strip aren't period correct, but the rest of the hardware is:

  • CPU: Intel Pentium III 800
  • Board: ASUS CUV4X
  • RAM: 2x256 MB PC133
  • GPU: ASUS GeForce2 MX 20
  • Sound: Creative SoundBlaster Live! CT4760
  • HDD: White label rebrand 7200RPM 120GB ATA100
  • ODD: Some Sony IDE CD burner

LOVE that system!!!

Arctic sells some hueg coolers that should cool your GPU down well for quite cheap. They are magic.

Also, you can find a tower Cooler Master Hyper T4 cooler on Amazon or Newegg for pretty cheap, like $10 to $15.

It's actually really weird. The GPU's chip has a headspreader on it (Instead of a bare die). Looks like a CPU. AND the heatsink contacts about 20 different chips via thermal pads around the board. I thought about replacing the thermal pads, but they're... thicker than the thermal pads I have. Almost 1.5mm thick, so I couldn't replace them. Also because of the thickness I couldn't replace them with thermal paste either.

I've been meaning to post this for a bit. Pictures of my Osbourne Executive. It was found in a storage locker.  Fired right up. All I had to do was find some discs. I did go ahead and replace the fan in the power supply as it was very loud.

Right now!

Do not pass GO.

Do not collect 200$

And do NOT come back until you have researched every last obscure computer part (and Osbournes were NOT obscure) and can name every dip switch configuration for an ISA RLL micro-controller there is.

Kids these days....no respect I tell ya.

No respect at all....
