Show off your old and retro computer parts

Thank you,

Technically not even all that old nor retro, but got the majority of my planned-to-be XP rig set up. Still needs a fan splitter so I can have both the PSU and red LED front intake fan going at the same time as well as a video card (REALLY want a single-slot 9800GT but anything that actually costs money is out of my price range lol). Only things I've done since this pic is remove the wireless card since MCE was being an idiot about it and swapped out the 250GB WD Blue (bottom drive) with a 250GB Momentus 5400.6 since the motherboard really hates it due to it being more or less dead.

Fun fact: The shitty Foxconn CPU fan makes more noise than the ~25 year old Nidec fan in the back and ~18 year old Antec in the front combined.

Cooler Master sells a Hyper T4 (tower air cooler, quad heatpipe) for $10 to $15 with thermal paste included. Also what are the specs of the beast?

I wasn't going to bother swapping out the cooler, honestly. Doesn't bother me too much (and anything much larger than a TX3 probably wouldn't fit anyways). And it doesn't even hit 65C running small FFTs so temps aren't a problem. Also as it stands:

My pride and joy of old tech is my super C from mei collage days.

Apple2cPlus.jpg

Mine has the 5.25 floppy not the 3.5 like in this pic.

I still have a bunch of games and the most of the programs I wrote when I was programming on it back in the day.

Cool! But I also meant the entire inside of the Mac. That picture is smexy, but if you could send more pics of more of the PC we all would love that.

also the photo was uploaded correctly. don't worry.

This is my mac pro 1,1. Unfortunately the Bios is 32 bit so i cant update it to the newest MacOS which is sad because it is still quite fast for a about 9 year old computer, i have done a lot of upgrades onto it because my dad has a mac pro 5,1 and i can get all his spare parts when he upgrades his, because his mac pro 5,1 is still supported by OS Mojave. That is also how I obtained the second graphics card, because my dad upgraded his graphics card to a metal-capable one so he could update to OS Mojave. I can't tell the exact specs because i dont know all the specs by heart and I am not home currently so i cant do about his mac. What I do know is that it has 14 gb of ddr2 ram right now 1, but soon two HD 5770's 4 hard drives and 2 ssds, a 8 core xeon, so quite a lot has been modified on this thing, the person I bought of ebay from for 50 bucks (this was a really good deal so i couldn't say no) installed the HD5770 because that card doesn't come with this model of the mac pro 1,1. Even though it's old and doesn't run a lot of stuff anymore its still great for backing up my laptop and running Virtual Machines (yes its fast enough). Honestly you can never have enough hard drives. I hope I structured this paragraph in a understandable way, and I hope its old enough for this thread. I also hope I didn't screw up the specs and list something wrong, I am just writing this off memory and using the photos I have because I'm not actually home

Just put windows or linux onto it if you want to get onto a modern OS once your macOS version goes out of support.

hello everyone here on this subforum. This is my 1000th post, and I wanted it to be something special.

So that's why I'm going to tell a part of my pcmr story here. I found some of my old (mostly working) parts and pc's, and I just wanted to show you. (if you're not interested in the story, just look at the pictures)

IMG_20181024_123929.thumb.jpg.d319ccb12561adb69f362b6aa8a505fe.jpgIMG_20181024_123946.thumb.jpg.923408e9939b8f19efa7604d0ddce18b.jpgIMG_20181024_124011.thumb.jpg.f0df11a9f5bf6708401f77c3fe9b8bae.jpgIMG_20181024_124016.thumb.jpg.410787ee50f49b3c9ff2a50dc0b54104.jpg

To start with this, my fathers old Pentinum 4 pc. My first I ever saw and ever played on. This 3000 euro costing pc packs a Nvidia fx 8400 with a pentinum 4 at 3 ghz, a SATA hdd and 2 gigs of ram. I saw my father playing doom and driver, I liked it so much to just look at someone playing, and ask how he did it. That was absolutly my first contact to the pcmr.

Then I got my first laptop, but it died a couple years later and was trown away. My father gave me a new one he got from a friend, I had to share it with my little brother, It could still work, but my harddisk connector broke, and I haven't searched for a new one. That was a Fujitsu-siemens lifebook with a weak clocked cpu, 128 mb ram and running on windows 98 becouse it couldn't run XP. IMG_20181024_123717.thumb.jpg.5fc984c21fb2408ff9f49939d4b84025.jpgIMG_20181024_123723.thumb.jpg.a47700c2c72a30e7d2b936cef6a69cab.jpgIMG_20181024_123729.thumb.jpg.e8f41c5875926487765a7685bdb349ca.jpg

This is where I spent most time on. As a laptop with some child games, and not allowed to change any settings, even trough I wanted to, I didn't.

Then I got my verry own laptop that I gave away recently, It is still working with windows 7 starter and doing fine as far as I know. It was a skoolmate 2, with a atom processor. I had to use it for school, but sometimes I used it to play minecraft on. my averidge fps was 0, my highest 4. but I had fun, maybe while waiting 3 seconds before I did something, but still.

After that I got a laptop from my fathers work, a dual core with some old ati hd graphics. It could actually run minecraft at 30 fps, and I had even more fun. That thing still lasts, but I have also gave that one away to someone, but recently I repaired it so I know the state is still good (especially for a 2006-2007 laptop).

Then I was 13, and I still had the interest for pc's, and my father gave me 3 old HP Compaqs with pentinum 3 or 4's. I was allowed to open them, swap things and if it breaks, it wouldn't be a problem. they were not working properly anymore and I tried to fix it. I did it! for a while at least, all 3 stopped working after a while becouse of software and a lot of hardware problems. And from there I started helping everyone with problems, with just the internet as my knowledge.

From there I had some core 2 dual machines, 5 different laptops with i3's and a lot more that's not interesting at all.

IMG_20181004_220134.thumb.jpg.5de7e9b2e1157b394ab24148a25ad659.jpg

and this is what I have today. with this crappy photo from a great pc I end my story. I am going to make some better pictures with my camera, but for now I keep it on this, becouse otherwise I would be off topic. So, this is my story about how I came into the PCMR. Hope you like the story, or at least the crappy pictures I made with my phone while searching for some parts for a repair.

Our family's first computer was a Windows 3.1 machine. We had all kinds of fun on that machine. One thing I remember was a Jurassic Park game. My very first addition to a computer was adding a CD-Rom to it. It came with Return to Zork i think. Knowing my mother, I'm sure she's got it stashed away somewhere. Next time I take that 7 hour drive, I'll post some pics.
