Don't lump me in with them. I'm an enthusiast of mechanic design, be it engines, weaponry, or productive machinery. Not a guy with a wrench that reads the marketing garbage AFE/insert other "enthusiast" brand that can't legally warranty half of their products.

I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

Edit. That goes for everyone in the thread

At least that situation would condemn any tire, regardless of wheel size lol.

Nah, just toss a plug in it and loop it through the sidewall for extra security.

Oil change done, it's nice having time to do things slow and lazy. Ended up using almost the whole 5qt jug between the engine and filter, I think the fluid extractor got more oil out than the drain plug because I could let it sit overnight and pull more out again the next morning. Added 4oz of Hy-per Lube Zinc Replacement additive, VVT clatter at hot engine idle seems to be gone which is nice. I'll have to see how it is after a drive tomorrow to make sure the brakes are cleaned up.

Also, took it through a touchless wash for the first time since I fixed my drip channel leak and good news my leak is in fact fixed!

I bought the ST in 2016 for $21K

I could theoretically get $17-19k for it nearly five years later.

If I wanted something different I definitely would trade in right now (assuming I could find anything I wanted) I had a dream I saw the new Bronco's on the road...

Have a 2017 Chevy Malibu 1.5 turbo in for hard brakes/won't stop, engine light on, stalled, and reduced power.

Found the problem, vacuum pump drive off the end of the exhaust camshaft has shattered on the pump side and possibly damaged the camshaft. Also now it doesn't start, bulletin says this can happen if the exhaust position reluctor has shifted or been bent. Probably going to need a camshaft and a vacuum pump. I predict this will be a safety recall soon, since it causes sudden stalling and loss of power brakes. Car was a bitch to stop even at parking lot speeds on warmup idle! I can't imagine rolling 20mph when that fails.

It’s really not a bad option. Very useful vehicle.

charging infrastructure sucks for anything but Tesla right now but it’ll keep getting better and better

and if you only need it to drive in your own town it’s a no brainer really. Why would you get the gas one? It’ll just break more and cost more

heck, I want one. I’m just too cheap to justify spending $30k on a car period lol

The electric one is actually cheaper than the gas one lol because of the tax credits. Seems like a no brainer.

Anyone got a good DIY fix for a worn bearing race? Took out the secondary shaft and saw that one of the ball bearings was busted and had spun in its race quite a bit so now the race is worn and the bearing won't sit tight in it. Idk if a new one will either but this bearing will sit tight on the non worn part so I have a suspicion a new one won't sit tight either.

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

If the bearing spun then it's not the race that's damaged but the part the race seats on or in. Spun means the races were turning instead of stationary in terms of a roller or ball bearing. For an engine, spun means the bearing shells are turning with the crank/cam.

If the bearing race won't sit tight it's time to replace the part it fits into. Sometimes you can get lucky with some green loctite but if it's something that gets hot then probably not going to last. Maybe some epoxy when you press it in would hold it, but you'd need some darn good stuff and probably have to scuff the surfaces up to get traction for the adhesive.

do you guys see a growing market for electric car conversions? I guess more in particular for special/classic cars

I think we are gonna see a significant uptick in conversions here in a few years. Then stuff will catch on fire, explode, etc and laws will make it much harder.
