Car Enthusiast Club [Now Motorcycle friendly!] - First thread to 150k! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Don't lump me in with them. I'm an enthusiast of mechanic design, be it engines, weaponry, or productive machinery. Not a guy with a wrench that reads the marketing garbage AFE/insert other "enthusiast" brand that can't legally warranty half of their products.

I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

Edit. That goes for everyone in the thread

Road tripped up to my parents for midsummer's eve, it was so soooo bad on the Virago. The wind was ultra bad, I discovered a fuel issue, bike seemingly overheated and just straight up died at 120km/h at one point and I ran dry because of the fuel issue... Also vibrations everywhere so I ended up numb in most body parts before even an hour had passed...

Bike really needs a windshield at least if I'm going to go any distance on it again. Not looking forward to the ride back home tomorrow :(

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Kinda weird because that contradicts it. I like the new NSX after hating on it when it first released. Saw one in person a while back, beautiful car. Just stupidly overpriced. The C8 is likely the nail in the coffin for the NSX.

I think Honda just spent too much money developing that thing... and that’s why it’s priced like it is.

Will prob be a good used car tho

328 is considered a fairly high engine choice here lol, we get 316s

If the online configurator is accurate then that wouldve cost its first owner just shy of £75k

Starting the summer detail of the Celica a bit late this year, it's been wiped, IPA wiped, and now I'm on to the polishing. Going to do The Last Cut with a Urofiber 50/50 pad to knock down the bad stuff and leave a good finish then swap to a finishing pad and Hyper Polish to get a high gloss, then finish with Turtle Wax Hybrid black for it's filler/polish/sealant combo, then top it with Turtle Wax black SIO2 acrylic sealer for it's sealer/filler combo as well. I'll probably put a second topper of Mothers CMX over it as well just to give it a little extra protection. I was really impressed with the TW Black on my GF's dark silver Escape, it really kicked the gloss way up and it sheds water and dirt pretty nicely as well.

Oh I'm also going to give the glass all the way around a nice buff with some glass polish, 20 years I've picked up some scratches on the side glass and front glass.

It'll look the same, kind of crappy lol. I've had to seriously adjust my plan of action. The black single stage paint mars super super easily with even the lightest touch, the 50/50 pad is too aggressive even with the hyperpolish so I'd stepped way back to the black Griots finishing pad which works well enough with the TLC compound for getting a panel nearly finished but won't leave holograms like the 50/50 pad does with either compound. I still am using the 50/50 pad and TLC in some nastier blemishes and etched spots to smooth them down more but overall the car is going to be done with the finishing pads and probably straight to the TW Black polish. I think I'm going to skip the M7 glaze, it may interfere with the sealant bonding and it doesn't seem like the paint is going to need it this time. It adds a lot of extra work because of how messy it is to remove especially if you let it dwell on the paint for a few minutes. It seems like my back to back application from a few years ago is still 'in' the paint, the deep black color is still there through all the washes and polishes and fillers and toppers since then. I love M7 on single stage paint, it's a miracle product, but it's a pain to work with for removal. You need about 100 microfiber cloths to do a car because they gunk up so fast and stop wiping it off cleanly.

Why even bother then 🤷🏻‍♀️ if it'll still look crapy. Maybe try different pad/polish combo with a different machine?

Well the 20 year old paint is trashed on the hood and roof, the rest looks OK enough. It didn't look bad before I started just needed a touch up and I wanted to see if I could pull out some of the worse blemishes and etching which was on the hood and roof. It's my weekend fun car and it's difficult paint to work with but looks nice when it's all done.

I can't decide if I want to invest in getting the front  and roof of the car re-sprayed or not and don't even know who I'd trust to do a proper job locally. I plan to keep the car, I've had it a decade already, so I probably will at some point but until then I'll mess around and learn soft single stage better I guess.

Exactly, working with what I have to make it look better. It's a black car, know what it looks like in pictures? Every other shiny black car. It looks like what's behind the camera but at an angle and a little darker, like every other shiny black car does. LOL.

I'll get some shots of it when I'm done and it's somewhere besides in my garage under harsh lighting or my driveway which is also black. It looks good enough before I did anything but the spiderweb scratches were getting apparent again.  Seriously the black paint on this car scratches just from wiping it with a clean new soft microfiber cloth gently if the cloth is dry, it's stupid, and especially bad on the areas of the car that are more sun baked despite being polished down to 'fresh' paint.
