Car Enthusiast Club [Now Motorcycle friendly!] - First thread to 150k! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Don't lump me in with them. I'm an enthusiast of mechanic design, be it engines, weaponry, or productive machinery. Not a guy with a wrench that reads the marketing garbage AFE/insert other "enthusiast" brand that can't legally warranty half of their products.

I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

Edit. That goes for everyone in the thread

I hope I'm not misusing the thread, but I'm looking to buy a fun, new-ish car soon and I'd like to get a second opinion on the matter.

Here's what I'm considering:

  • 2016/2017 Mustang GT
  • 2016-2018 BMW M140i
  • 2016-2018 Seat Leon Cupra 300

My main criteria is decent reliability, a manual option and a price of around 30.000€ (this is in Germany). Has anyone here owned any of these or can otherwise chime in as to what they'd recommend? I'm leaning towards the Mustang for novelty factor and the V8, but it's the most expensive. Still, the M140i is crazy fast for what it is and the Cupra would be the best bang for your buck. I'm torn, so any input is much appreciated!

What's your fuel budget, given that you live in the land of gas that actually costs a lot?

Regardless of your answer, you've got a whole lifetime ahead of you to do the small car thing. Get the Mustang and enjoy some V8 braps without turbo lag while you still can. Plenty of life ahead to be sensible and get the 1er or the Seat. Just....be careful leaving Cars and Coffee.

Has anyone else gotten yelled at for there vehicle when in a parking garage? I was at the doctors office and when I went to leave and as I was going back up some gentleman started yelling at me, saying my truck was "too damn obnoxious", as I was going passed him. I was literally idling around in second gear at about 1K (15mph).

My E30 and E36s would set off car alarms occasionally in parking structures, even just toodling along (bass notes from the exhaust are what did it). That and track pads were always fun to see how long I could squeal the brakes when descending. Have only been yelled at for squeaky brakes on the road though, never for the car alarms. Always did get a chuckle out of unintentionally setting them off.

It looks a hell of a lot better even just in the 3rd picture. On the car pics when? ?

don't think i'm in a big rush to get them mounted....  Especially since they have bald summer tires mounted atm.  Come spring I need to redo the OZ chronos that are on the car, the clearcoat is peeling/yellowing on them.  I bought firetruck red paint for them over a year ago but now I'm having second thoughts and may just redo them in white.

I'm sure i have an account their but can't recall the last time I logged in.  Mainly lurked around alltrac.net and gt4oc.   Its a JDM st205, also still have a JDM st185 that I don't really drive anymore as it needs valve seals after putting 300k on it.  Also have a JDM sw20. Luv me some 3sgte.

I had to google where IL was, I don't know how thats considered "west" and is a 27 hour drive one way so probably not going to happen.

Hey, one guy comes out from South Dakota 2-3 times a year for the meets lol but you're a little farther away in what I assume is Canada. Midwest USA, not West though so like...all the corn flyover states. Most of us are within a few hours, some of us don't have a 6GC anymore or like me never had one. I started this meet like...15 years ago when I had a car with a 7A that wasn't a Celica, then got a 7th gen, and it's just kept on going ever since. People have gotten married, had kids, people have died, people have gotten more Celica's than you can shake a stick at, others have moved on to other platforms or other brands, but we all just keep coming together 2-3 times a year to BBQ, hike, drive, and have a good time. If you're ever out this way around Chicago, car or no car, send me a PM and I'll see if I can get some of the group together for a dinner meet or something. For the April meet we'll have at least 1 GT4, we're trying to get all 4 AWD Celica together even if one is just a crusty old ST165 (She'd murder me if she ever saw that).

I got my hands on set of roof racks. I'm not sure if i'll keep them on, what is your opinions?

Before and after pictures, don't mind the dirty car, current weather and road conditions will make it dirty with only a short drive.

Also my Audi in the background.

I have some alloy wheels that I'm going to put new winter tiers on for the next winter.

Will you be using them regularly or are they just for looks? I mean if you like the look and don't mind the added wind noise and loss of fuel economy at highway speeds...

To me an empty roof rack is about as cool as a clean mudding truck.

I really do like Subaru Impreza hatchback. So versitile. 30mpg, awd, perfect for snowy ski trips like I am on now. Plus plenty of space inside. And I like the "deep cherry pearl" color.

terrible idea.

jk you can't really go wrong with one. just avoid one with vvti (even if there's a bump in power compared to non-vvti) bc it's just more complex and iirc they're interference motors, and on a belt driven motor, that's bad news if belt goes. but as long as you're on top of maintenance, it should take care of you.
