Don't lump me in with them. I'm an enthusiast of mechanic design, be it engines, weaponry, or productive machinery. Not a guy with a wrench that reads the marketing garbage AFE/insert other "enthusiast" brand that can't legally warranty half of their products.

I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

Edit. That goes for everyone in the thread

The B235r is a great motor. As long as your turbo doesn't disintegrate on you

So I know DEF is Diesel Exhaust Fluid, but what does it exactly do, what's the purpose? Does it burn off like gas and need refilled?

Fancy chemical reaction, gets sprayed in to your exhaust, needs to be refilled.

Is it an emissions thing? I know it can be deleted typically

Yah it's for emissions afaik, don't think it impacts performance much but I guess its some extra weight

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

"AdBlue is a solution made up of urea and water that’s injected into the car’s exhaust system before NOx leaves your exhaust. After it’s fed into the exhaust, it reacts with the NOx produced by the combustion process, and breaks it down into harmless nitrogen and oxygen."

Yes. The emissions path in the exhaust is the cat, which facilitates its reactions, followed by the DPF which gets rid of the smoke and hurts fuel economy, then the SCR which is what has the Adblue sprayed into it. Thats where the magic happens.

IMHO the only reason to delete the SCR is for reliability. The consumables aren’t expensive, and the chemistry is great. SCR doesnt eat power or fuel, but its an expensive system that when it doesn’t work right, will fuck up your day.

The cat on diesels isnt a problem

The DPF is where things get tricky. It eats fuel economy. Fuel is shot into the exhaust to raise the temps hot enough to burn off the soot that the mesh traps, and the more you use the pedal, the more its going to have to shoot into the exhaust.

tl;dr delete the SCR and the DPF forget the adblue, then enjoy a very economical and powerful car that never dies

with the downside of making the atmosphere more disgusting

Well, the ones I'm looking at are at around 230k and cost 2500€ tops... But then again, there isn't much you can get with that money in Portugal, so, a turbo 5 pot Volvo is probably the best car you can get with that much.

also if you want a cheap one .. try to look for a 2.5 NA

NA ones aren't all that cheaper (they aren't as common either), and I'd still rather get a turbo 2.0 :P

you do know that you worrying about fuel expenses .. a 2.5 NA is better than a 2.0 or 2.3 turbo ....
