Don't lump me in with them. I'm an enthusiast of mechanic design, be it engines, weaponry, or productive machinery. Not a guy with a wrench that reads the marketing garbage AFE/insert other "enthusiast" brand that can't legally warranty half of their products.

I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

Edit. That goes for everyone in the thread

oh I know the 1zz too well. it's probably the single most reliable engine toyota ever made minus the oil burning issues in the early ones (like the one I had)

Speaking of oil burning issues, we used to have a 1998 Corolla with the 7a-fe(?) engine, and one cylinder wouldn't fire while the other three worked just fine. When we took the spark plug out, there was oil everywhere. That cylinder had a good amount of oil in it, maybe due to a bad head gasket?

Had to have been a 97 or earlier. 1998 was the first year of the 1zz.

could be rings or HG or even the spark plug tube seal if the oil was all in the spark plug well and not below the spark plug originally. I would of started there first as that's usually the easiest. change the tube seals + New correct OEM-matched spark plugs. might of run fine after that. Possible it may have needed a new spark plug cable/coil as well if it was sitting in oil for a while.

but sounds like you got rid of it. oh well.

and like @FuzzyYellow said, that had to have been a 7th gen corolla, 8th gen started in 1998 with the 1ZZ-FE. your dad's '04 you mentioned is a 9th gen. and 10th gen started in 2009 I believe. And im not sure when 11th started, but it was recent...

out of the "modern" corollas, I personally like the 8th gen the most... was the last lightweight one and had the torquey 1zz.... though they consumed oil which stinks. I believe it had a /decent/ suspension design as well compared the to the 9th gen. But you have to get one with a 5 speed. Also it's probably the best one to do a 2zz swap into.

Downside to any corolla is it's hard to find real performance stuff for them. kind of ruins the fun tbh

1 hour ago, FuzzyYellow said:

The 1zz is up there, but I think the 5vz v6 tops it, and the 2uz comes close.

I meant to say "single most reliable 4 cylinder"... but I didn't put that. whoops.

can't forget about that V8 in the original LS430 that's known to go millions of miles w/o issue lol

It's never easy hearing about a driver you're photographing passing away. Yesterday during the Formula 5000 race, Jeffrey Green in his Lola careened into the tire barriers at the end of the straight of CTMP at full speed. He was airlifted to hospital that afternoon, but news broke this morning stating he had not made it.

Heard about this from a friend the day it happened. I wonder what happened. Mechanical failure?

Just got back from Sonoma. Aero is incredible! Dropped my PB time by 3 full seconds just due to aero in the fast corners. I need more splitter though because anything over minimum AoA on the wing and I got high speed understeer. Also had an alternator fail on my first outlap on Saturday, so wandered the pits until I found an enduro racer who had a spare. Made it in time for the second session of the day.

....that is all.

Well remember I race it in Time Attack, its not a Riced up street car. but been built up as a full track car.

sadly the RS has the LSD and Revo Knuckles, so it puts down the power better than me at the moment but the LSD is next on the list after my new Suspension arrives.
