I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

Edit. That goes for everyone in the thread

so the accord has a terrible rattle that I traced to the left rear muffler. apparently it's a common issue with them. I think I'm going to cut it off cuz the rattle is driving me nuts. plus, the accord is too quiet anyway....

It's never easy hearing about a driver you're photographing passing away. Yesterday during the Formula 5000 race, Jeffrey Green in his Lola careened into the tire barriers at the end of the straight of CTMP at full speed. He was airlifted to hospital that afternoon, but news broke this morning stating he had not made it.

Welp, my FWD Miata has decided that it doesn't want to start, most likely because of a dead battery. On top of that, the right brake light is out. Unfortunately, I don't have money for a new battery, but at least I don't actually need to drive it...

Mhmm. It's a 1992 Toyota Paseo, 1st Gen, with a 5e-fe motor making 100hp. The car weighs only 940kg and has stiffer suspension than the Toyota Tercel it's based on, making it quite similar to the NA Mazda Miata. Chassis has 215k miles and the engine has 75k miles, as it was replaced in 2009 due to dirt getting in through an oil cap that someone forgot to put back on.

The Paseo is a bit of a rare car, and my friend had the only other one that I have ever seen; her's was the same color as well. Unfortunately, that car broke and was scrapped, so I probably have the only Paseo in Virginia.

That car would prob be sweet with a 2zz swap.. if it’s stiffer than a corolla

heck my old 2001 corolla felt similarish to my Miata. The Miata seating position is way better tho and the platform has more mechanical grip (and rwd but I don’t really care so much about that... tho the LSD helps for sure @ autoX)

Nice, it's always good to have pride in your car. Not many people would think twice of my Peugeot 407, but to me it's better than any other car.

I actually was thinking about a 2zz swap a couple months ago, but then again, I don't even have enough money to buy a new car battery. My dad has a 2004 Corolla with the 1zz, which actually makes better low-end torque than the 2zz engine. Coupled with a 5 speed manual transmission, it's a lot more zippy than you'd expect. Mechanically, the car is in perfect condition and the clutch is showing no signs of slipping after 115k miles. Visually, though... Eh I'll post pics tomorrow.

For being a first car, it's really nice. I am the 6th owner and I know of its interesting history...

The first owner was a slightly older man who didn't really care to keep a good service history. He also installed a reverse speaker that played some pop song (not even joking).

The second, third, and fourth owners were all sisters of my aunt and they all used it as their college daily drivers. Not one of them managed to put a single dent in the car, but put a weird seat cover and one of those super fuzzy pink steering wheel covers on. Finally, for some strange reason, their dad decided to paint the rims white with a red Toyota logo, which admittedly looks pretty nice.

The fifth owner was my uncle, who kept the car in his garage for two years because he had his hands full with a BMW 135i and a Honda Civic Si. We had plans to turn it into a track car someday, but unbeknownst to me, I would become the...

Sixth owner of this strange car! So far, I've replaced the brake pads and rotors, tires, and cleaned up the engine a lot. I'm proud to say that it runs better than when I first got it 8 months ago, and I'm certain that I will not be the last owner. (Cuz I'm a dam gud driver and won't slide it into a tree)

oh I know the 1zz too well. it's probably the single most reliable engine toyota ever made minus the oil burning issues in the early ones (like the one I had)

but the ones in the 2003-2008 corollas are absolutely bulletproof....

lucky your dad got the 5 speed. the 4 speed auto they were paired with is reliable but awful to drive in any way other than point A to B... that said I somehow made do with it at autocross.. lol (also apparently there was a 3 speed auto available (yes, in early 2000's 3 speeds were still a thing) that was even worse)

and yeah the 2zz is lacking torque but I don't think it matters much. It makes /enough/ torque but the high end is very good. yamaha did an excellent job with that engine when toyota gave them that job. I'm super surprised that engine was not in the MR2 spyder by default. It should of been.

tip: if you don't think the 1zz runs smooth, it's probably fine... just change the engine mounts with new OEM (they are fluid-filled) ones like I was going to do the day after someone crashed into mine... lol
