Is this the answer from AMD on the rumoured i9 lineup?

DriesK

Original article: http://wccftech.com/amd-ryzen-9-lineup-threadripper/

The details of nine AMD Ryzen 9 processors have been published online. As such, the company comes at least with two processors with sixteen cores and two with fourteen cores. With the so-called Threadripper chips, AMD is competing with Intel's hedt platform. The line up is allegedly to launch this june.

from wccftech:

Quote

The Ryzen 9 lineup, code named Threadripper, will be compatible with a modified version of the company’s SP3 socket, code named SP3r2, which was originally designed for AMD’s 32 core Naples server parts. The new high-end desktop platform is code named “Whitehaven” and brings support for quad channel DDR4 memory support and 44 PCIe lanes to hardware enthusiasts, content creators and developers.

From my standpoint AMD's lineup seems to be better, and if they also price these CPU's competitive I think they could gain some market share.

The war is on dudes!

I hope intel releases their $2000 shit CPU first and then AMD gives them an upper cut with a fucking $999 16core.

the best part is intel can't lower prices much or their server side will have to go down in price too :-)

I cannot understand the idea of those Kaby Lake X chips. What is the benefit?! They dont seem to come with higher base clocks, and the current Kaby Lake i5's and i7's can be OC'd just the same, and have the same number of cores and threads. Will they be binned more aggressively, or what is the deal?

AMD marketing rep 1: "Shall we name our SKUs with ascending numbers with divisions of 10 between each model? So a discerning consumer does not get confused?"

Rep 2: "Yeah we could but Intel's number divisions are weird and completely arbitrary, maybe we should do that instead. And also a letter at the end. Pick from 3; R, K or X."

Rep 1: "You're a facken genius m8"

you would rather them not release new fast products and just keep pumping out 4 core CPU until the dawn of time?

Uhhh competition is not good you say? You know the enterprise/prosumer stuff they make now will trickle down to the consumer market later which makes it awesome.

Competition is the basis of capitalism, and is why we have such great products in the first place. I dont understand your aversion to companies improving their products to outdo each-other, its a win-win for the consumer. More options, better products, better prices.

What is annoying?  That companies are competing for your business?  That they are trying to release better products to entice you to buy their product?

Do you prefer to have only a single option, with no chance for a better product ever?

in my opinion having companies being able to give us the same slightly improved product over and over again is annoying. you can call market competition annoying all you want but it sure as hell beats the alternative.

Yeah, but you know what's really, really annoying? Quad cores with hyperthreads at £300+, with the worst stock cooler in the world included - i.e no stock cooler (but they do give you an eyesore of a case sticker!). And the same quad core with HT disabled at £220. Now that's annoying. But you know what really grinds my gears? Enthusiast CPUs at £1700. Bloody hell.

Edit: Does the 6950X even come with a case sticker?
