This sounds like a bogus rumor to me. Intel shows up with i9s and suddenly a week later someome comes up with Ryzen 9s which are not based on the Naples arch but on something we'd never heard about before?

Right, but the silicon is at least monolithic.  The 16 core part is basically going to be a 2S 8 core system with cores having to communicate over some interlink and L3 cache sharing being limited.

It's been way too long since Intel had some proper competition. Look at it this way. There might finally be another dramatic increase in CPU performance.

yes the CCX bridge that the 8 cores use, it is the same thing but 4 4 core clusters. they also plan to us this for APU's. they have a white paper going over a possible 32 core 8 GPU die HBM linked APU with a target of 100 Tflops.

this link is going to allow them to cookie cutter CPU/APU together.

Wait, so because of an over-exaggerated video on competition, which has little to no bearing on CPU competition (they are not soliciting you), we should resort to a stagnant monopoly where we get stuck with 4 core CPU's forever with constantly climbing prices, nevermind the fact that CPU's with more cores start costing exponentially more for each core added.

As that paragraph indicated, that seems an undesirable and self-destructive way to go.

So... competition is back in the CPU market? How is that a bad thing? This is how innovation occurs, consumers win when competition is fierce.

Having issues with a Corsair AIO? Possible fix here:

Spoiler

Are you getting weird fan behavior, speed fluctuations, and/or other issues with Link?

Are you running AIDA64, HWinfo, CAM, or HWmonitor? (ASUS suite & other monitoring software often have the same issue.)

Corsair Link has problems with some monitoring software so you may have to change some settings to get them to work smoothly.

-For AIDA64: First make sure you have the newest update installed, then, go to Preferences>Stability and make sure the "Corsair Link sensor support" box is checked and make sure the "Asetek LC sensor support" box is UNchecked.

-For HWinfo: manually disable all monitoring of the AIO sensors/components.

-For others: Disable any monitoring of Corsair AIO sensors.

That should fix the fan issue for some Corsair AIOs (H80i GT/v2, H110i GTX/H115i, H100i GTX and others made by Asetek). The problem is bad coding in Link that fights for AIO control with other programs. You can test if this worked by setting the fan speed in Link to 100%, if it doesn't fluctuate you are set and can change the curve to whatever. If that doesn't work or you're still having other issues then you probably still have a monitoring software interfering with the AIO/Link communications, find what it is and disable it.

They've always been doing that. Any company that competes directly with another does that.

It's just looking like it did before Bulldozer and Core i.

I disagree. Intel now has competition. Something it hasn't had in a long time.

Competition invokes innovation. Competition is what drives the free market.

This is good for us. 16 cores and 32 threads? That'll really crush those rendering times for me. I could batch render 4k images very quickly that amount of horsepower.

Intel is in a state of panic. Exactly where we want them. This will drive better performance gains over each generation.

AMD seems to be ahead of the game, in my opinion.

it wont stop here as there is two things now we can do:

1 still on x86:

bigger chips, still feasible for the consumer market but the server market is already reaching the limits

add additional layers to the dies, just lke in hbm (probably hard but very cool concept)

divide the chip into smaller dies:allows for modularity, low costs and much bigger chips

2 get rid of as many instructions as possible (specially the older ones that aren't in use) and simplify to reduce the core footprint
