What tech are y'all buying/upgrading this year?

dizmo

I bought a new AIO on ebay the other day, as well as parts for an E-Sports pc for younger siblings.

I plan on getting a new case in the future and in the closer future a new keyboard and/or ssd for my other brother's birthday coming up.

S8+/note 8 (hopefully), HTC Vive would be amazing but if I'm honest with myself I can't afford it lol, maybe upgrade to ryzen..?(probably not though), and Nintendo switch games

I wouldn't be too upset about not being able to get a Vive yet, to be honest you're not missing out on much.

I'd wait for the Note, hopefully they fix the position of the fingerprint sensor :)

My experience with OUTEMU blacks are very pleasant so I doubt they'll be that bad :P

Alfa Giulia Quadrifoglio has become my second favourite car :P (after a nice white and blue Mitsubishi Evo X...).

Yeah, they look pwetty and isn't too expensive...I mean I currently almost have enough saved up to buy one outright although I'd still probably need to borrow half from my mother as insurance will be around 2-3K...basically as much as what the car costs :/

Haha, I don't mind the look of the EVO but I've heard they're absolute shit for shorter drivers. So. That's out.

Ouch, insurance is pretty expensive out there! Do you at least get good coverage for what you're paying?

Literally exactly what I was going to say ;)

The only thing I will be upgrading other than this is my mouse, probably to a G502. I also MIGHT buy a G4560 and ITX motherboard combo instead.

The G502 is an all right mouse but I found it way, way too light. I like my mice to have some real heft to them!

I also looked at the Pentium route but the price was a little too much to swallow.

that being said options are welcome, just know my budget kinda stands where those two sit.

I just threw a lot of my money at Ryzen, but coming from a FX-8350, I am incrediably impressed with it. Other than that, I need a new laptop, as I'm using a All in One Desktop currently, lol.

I spend most of my time on Autodesk and Caffe. CAD is great, as long as you know what you're doing.

Watson: Ryzen 7 1800X, 32GB 3000Mhz Dominator Platinum, X370 MSI Pro Carbon, 2x FirePro W9100s, 2x 256GB Samsung 850EVO SSDs, 2x 6TB WD Raid 1 HDDs, Ghetto Custom Cooling and Case, Logitech G910 and G502, 3DConnection SpacePilot Pro, 6x 27" Viewsonic FHD Monitors, 2x 24" Acer FHD Monitors, Windows 10 Pro/Ubuntu 16.04 Dual.

Yes, you can game on FirePro Cards, it's just overkill if you never use it's full abilities.

Sherlock: 128 Core Render Server (32 Nodes, Matched Core 2 Quads, 8GB DDR2) running HPC Service Pack 1 on Windows Server 2016. Just because, you know, who doesn't want to render in real time? (Plus I don't pay the power bill)

Probably nothing for my current desktop, since Intel's 4th Gen processors are about as good as their 6th and 7th Gen chips.

However, I'm in dire need of a new laptop to replace my 2012 15" MacBook Air - waiting for a sale on the Dell XPS 15 1080p with at least the i5 CPU, 8GB RAM, and 256GB SSD.

Desktop: KiRaShi-Intel-2022 (i5-12600K, RTX2060) Mobile: OnePlus 5T | Koodo - 75GB Data + Data Rollover for $45/month
Laptop: Dell XPS 15 9560 (the real 15" MacBook Pro that Apple didn't make) Tablet: iPad Mini 5 | Lenovo IdeaPad Duet 10.1

Just did a new build, so I'm financially drained for a while.

May be looking into a new phone to replace my HTC 10 later on in the year, as I haven't been very happy with performance and camera. I vehemently dislike Samsung phones, so I'm holding out for LG V30 or may even jump ship to iPhone 8 Plus.

Also still saving for a nice monitor, preferably 3440x1440 or 3840x1600. Refresh rate isn't a priority, as I don't really do competitive gaming anymore.

New Build (The Compromise): CPU - i7 9700K @ 5.1Ghz Mobo - ASRock Z390 Taichi | RAM - 16GB G.SKILL TridentZ RGB 3200CL14 @ 3466 14-14-14-30 1T | GPU - ASUS Strix GTX 1080 TI | Cooler - Corsair h100i Pro | SSDs - 500 GB 960 EVO + 500 GB 850 EVO + 1TB MX300 | Case - Coolermaster H500 | PSUEVGA 850 P2 | Monitor - LG 32GK850G-B 144hz 1440p | OSWindows 10 Pro.

Peripherals - Corsair K70 Lux RGB | Corsair Scimitar RGB | Audio-technica ATH M50X + Antlion Modmic 5 |

CPU/GPU history: Athlon 6000+/HD4850 > i7 2600k/GTX 580, R9 390, R9 Fury > i7 7700K/R9 Fury, 1080TI > Ryzen 1700/1080TI > i7 9700K/1080TI.

Other tech: Surface Pro 4 (i5/128GB), Lenovo Ideapad Y510P w/ Kali, OnePlus 6T (8G/128G), PS4 Slim.

It's a phone targeted at audiophiles, as long as it has good sound most people don't probably care. And new software updates can be a pain in the ass if one of the audio components doesn't work (this is me, upgrading to 10.3.1 makes my DAC not working well so I downgraded to 10.2.1)

Plus I heard this phone is made co-op by Onkyo and Fujitsu, so there's a bit of a chance it will receive proper updates

That's with a blackbox installed in the car as well, it would be like 6-7K without a telemetry box installed...

I got my friend to buy a MasterCase for his build, he loves it! Very cool cases. Plus the tempered glass is a really nice addition should you choose to pay the extra $50. The S340 is still a solid case. I can't wait to build a proper computer again, my next build is going to be very budget oriented.

Have you considered buying from the US and going south to pick it up? If you buy off jet.com you get 15% off, which works out to an $850 card. Pretty good savings.  Don't trust NCIX and their estimates. Both myself and my friends have tried ordering stuff that wasn't in stock and some items have taken months, with no feedback from NCIX at all.

I'm really hoping the V30 is the same design style as the G6, just with a lot more features built in. Or perhaps something even more amazing, but still with a very large screen and very compact body. Second wave of phones can't come fast enough, I'm so sick of mine :P

Have you considered the new Samsung monitors that are supposed to come out? The 44" 29:9 is actually pretty tempting for me. I'm torn between one of those, or the 38" 21:9 for my office computer.

I thought about getting one of the older Notes when I was buying a phone a couple years ago, but I couldn't pass up the release mechanism in the newer ones. Too cool.

At that price point I generally don't find the NVMe drives worth it over what you can get in a SATA drive...most people can't really make use of the extra speed anyway.

In their defence, a 17 year old who just got their driver's licence is pretty risky...

The chances that they'll be in an accident is like over the roof...

On a side note, what would you rather have? (spolier as listing 2 laptop specs=very long)

Spoiler

Option number 1 (for 315 pounds, 345~ pounds once upgraded):

i5 5300U

4GB RAM (would cost like 30 to add another 4GB stick)

12.5 inch 1366x786 TN display

128GB SSD

Pros: Much easier to upgrade, is 100-175 pounds cheaper (or the same once the 850 EVO is sold and 4GB extra is slapped in), 30% better iGPU, longer battery life

Or Option number 2 (for 425-475 pounds, or 325-375 once I sell the 850EVO and slap in a MX100 instead):

i7 4500U

10GB RAM

13.3" 1080p IPS touch display

500GB 850 EVO (or should I say 128GB MX100 once I've received it)

Pros: Lighter, slimmer, looks much much nicer (blue and silver metal versus black plastic), better display in every aspect (almost double the resolution, is IPS, touch enabled), the sweetspot size for me (13.3"), enuff ram outta the box.

The better screen and screen size of option 2 almost makes me want it a lot more than option one although better battery life and iGPU makes option one very compelling :/

Edit: I have decided on option numba 2 and is going to be shipped tomorrow :DDDDDD

At that price point I generally don't find the NVMe drives worth it over what you can get in a SATA drive...most people can't really make use of the extra speed anyway.

I already own 4 Samsung 850 EVO in a raid 0, i want more speed.

I wish i could oc my body, during winter overheating would be great.

In their defence, a 17 year old who just got their driver's licence is pretty risky...

The chances that they'll be in an accident is like over the roof...

1hr left :P

On a side note, what would you rather have? (spolier as listing 2 laptop specs=very long)

Edit: I have decided on option numba 2 and is going to be shipped tomorrow :DDDDDD

Hmmm I suppose. Still at that price it's prohibitively difficult to get experience. No experience, shittier driver. Many people think age has something to do with it, but it doesn't. It's largely based on experience. An 18 year old with 3 years of driving experience is vastly safer than a 34 year old with none.

I think you made the right choice, while I'd prefer the CPU from the first laptop, everything else is substantially worse, especially 4GB of RAM. It's not really usable in laptops these days. Plus that screen resolution...

I mean, I get that smaller screens don't need as much, but the lowest I'd go is 1600x900. Which is what I'm running now.

Congrats! I won my auction today too (well, the one that's PC related, I won a few others as well). "New" motherboard and CPU on the way. Now I just have to find the rest of the components...

To be fair, it was a dell E7250 which has 2 dedicated dimm slots :P

Yeah, the screen was the absolute killer for the dell...768p TN non touch? Ewwwwwwwww (as my old laptop was at least a 768p TN touch display)

@deXxterlab97 is going to be jelly of my new blue laptop... :)
