What tech are y'all buying/upgrading this year?

dizmo

Grabbing whatever comes out on sale for my new build.  Kinda waiting to see how the competition fairs near the end of the year so I can decide on which more crucial parts to buy first (i,e cpu, mobo,)

In order:

- Low Profile GPU to bolster my A10-8600k short term.

- Custom mITX HTPC case.

- A whole new build in said case; maybe an i7/GTX 1070 or R5/Vega. Haven't decided which way I want to go.

First off I'm gonna build my dad a PC, while it's not MY tech purchase, I'm the one who will assemble it sooo..

Secondly I'll probably grab a NAS server for backups, and it will be a backup for the whole household, maybe even also for the part of my family that no longer lives home (accessing it remotely).

Lastly, I'm still not sure if I should go for it or skip it for now, but I might move into 4k 60FPS gaming eventually. If Vega gets awesome, I might do it.

Already bought:

 - TV with necessary peripherals to hook up the PC for couch surfing and Netflix - I might swap to a different wireless mouse though as the one I got turned out to be a little lackluster

 - My first tablet!

 - My first mechanical keyboard, a Logitech G610 Orion with Cherry MX Red, and boy am I happy I made that purchase

Asus X99-A w/ BIOS 3402 | Intel i7 5820k OC @4.4GHz 1.28V w/ Noctua NH-U14S | 16GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4 OC @2666MHz 12-14-14-28 | Asus Geforce GTX970 STRIX OC | EVGA 750 G2 750W | Samsung 850 Evo 1 TB | Windows 10 64-bit | Be-Quiet Silent Base 800 w/ Silent Wings | 2x Dell U2414H OC @72Hz w/ Display Port

Don't forget to invest in an Intel Tuning Plan if you're going to overvolt your K/X CPU

Still no 7.0, even though pretty much all of the US S7s and S7 Edges have received the update by now.

I strongly dislike Kaby Lake because there's not really much benefit over Skylake, and from what I've heard it's much harder to get working with Windows 8.1 than Skylake is. (I'm not going to be even considering using Windows 10 on my desktop until Microsoft cuts the bullshit and stops spying on everyone, forcing updates, installing applications without permission, etc...

Hmmm that's not good. Definitely a strike against the current generation of unlocked Galaxy phones then.

Doesn't Windows Pro cut out most of that garb?

That would be awesome, but it would be very, not, Nintendo. At least the Wii U and older systems can be emulated on a PC. :D I love Mario, and I'll always buy their system if it means I can have more of my favorite, possibly psychopathic plumber!

My bad, I meant Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2, not the Samsung Galaxy!

Hahaha, gottttcha that makes way more sense.

Yeah.. For example, on a MacBook ('cause Apple sets the prices) we pay whatever the exchange from USD to NZD is, plus like $300 just 'cause.

The 1070 is about $700NZD, which is about $500USD. A used 980Ti is like under $500NZD ($350USD). Which isn't a whole lot more than my 470 was new. Brand new the 980Ti was like $1200 or something.

That's pretty brutal. Though to be fair, it could be taxes and levies they have to pay landing the product on NZ shores. They get pretty big tax brakes in the US.

Nice, what tablet did you get?

I got one last year as well. Used it a bit and now it sits in my briefcase doing nothing.

I like MX Red the most too, though Silver is a very close second if more people would adopt it.

I wouldn't put a strike against the current generation of unlocked galaxy phones, just the international ones. The US Unlocked ones should be ahead of the US Locked phones for updates.

Pro gives more control, but there's still much that is missing. (Like you still get updates shoved down your throat and you still can't disable all the telemetry and bullshit)

I don't do anything shady either, I just like my privacy, and when a company is taking user information, using it for who knows what, and refusing to actually come out and say exactly what information they're tracking, what they're using it for, who they're selling it to, etc... I become a bit more cautious around them.

So far I've got my new Ryzen rig to replace my old rig which got cooked due to some user error on my part.  I also got a Roku which I'm lovin the hell out of.  Can't say I've got too much else I really want I have some things I do have my eye on though primarily the Galaxy S8 as I'm due for an upgrade soon, and the Nintendo Switch.

I'll likely be buying a new graphics card as soon as amd has made a move, I don't really want a pascal card (also I now have a freesync monitor so if I could get an amd card it would be better). Other than that there's not much I need to replace, I'm satisfied with my desktop's cpu performance and I just recently upgraded my laptop's storage. I might have to buy a new headset since the one I have is starting to fall apart (4 years of intensive usage take their toll) though.

Other than that, I don't have any plans for the rest of the year. Next year however....

I'll probably be getting a Deepcool Captain 240 AIO for my FX 6300 build. Along with a 1920x1080 display that has about a 3-5 ms response time (lower than that and it gets too expensive). As well as a G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB DDR3 1600Mhz kit, which should total up to about $400.00.

Well seeing as I'm working to build a brief-case computer:

  • An LCD Controller for the LTN156 somethingsomethingsomething or the LP101WSA TLA1 panels that I have
  • A DC-DC ATX power supply capable of supplying at least 300 watts of current.
  • A 300 watt power brick capable of supplying a voltage within the operating range of the power supply I purchase.
  • brass threaded wood inserts.

At least, that's what I need currently, I may be overlooking something here.

My procrastination is the bane of my existence.

I make games and stuff in my spare time.

Already bought ryzen and an axon elite this year. Won't be upgrading anything else in 2017 most likely.

Might get vega some time in 2018 if it's any good.

Besides my dual 290x setup is actually still very fast, plus it doubles  as a space heater.

AMD Ryzen R7 1700 (3.8ghz) w/ NH-D14, EVGA RTX 2080 XC (stock), 4*4GB DDR4 3000MT/s RAM, Gigabyte AB350-Gaming-3 MB, CX750M PSU, 1.5TB SDD + 7TB HDD, Phanteks enthoo pro case

I'm full of projects this year and i have a little list actually.

For the main PC:

Arctic F12 CO fan; two Vantec EZ-Swap removable trays, one for 2x 2.5' drive and one for 1x 3.5' drive; Bluray drive and an Arctic Accelero Twin Turbo for my 970. No Ryzen this year, i think...

For the pfSense box:

A motherboard (i think i'm going to get an ASRock B75M-ITX); Zalman CNPS10X Flex; Arctic F8 and F12 CO fans; Seasonic OEM 300w 80 Plus PSU; Sharkoon Shark Zone C10 case and an Intel D33682 dual port NIC (already bought this one).

For my audio setup:

A new amplifier (i'm thinking about a Sansui 9090db or AU-607 Alfa, if money allows), finish the cabinet for my DIY speakers, some new cabling and a DAC (Topping D30, most likelly).

For my network setup:

pfSense box (i5 3470, 4gb DDR3 1600mhz, Intel D33682), 16 port switch, a couple of 5ghz capable wireless APs.

Random electric stuff:

Hubbell Hospital Grade power outlets and a big G.R. Savage or UPSAI power conditioner, depending on how much money i'll decide to spend.

Peripherals:

IKBC C104 keyboard (real Cherries this time); Logitech M570 (bought two months ago, i'm loving it!) and, if Corsair decides my M65 is not elegible for RMA, i'll be getting a Logitech G403 mouse.

All the tech I buy is pretty much for my PC. I don't care about phones that much. I have a 5500$ rig but my main phone is still an iPhone 4S.

I'm looking to buy 2 of the new Titan Xps, for my birthday in August.
