What tech are y'all buying/upgrading this year?

dizmo

Well we're well into a new year, and I was wondering what tech purchases you guys have in mind for the months ahead?

Lots of new goodies coming out, maybe something someone else is buying will inspire me to buy something else as well :P

This year will be a busy year for me upgrade wise.

Phone

Hate my Nexus 5x, but it's a place holder since the Note7 was obviously a no go. Nothing's caught my eye yet, holding out hope for the Note8, Axon 8, OP4, V30, Nokia flagship?

Laptop

Series 9 is starting to show its age, so it'll likely be replaced with a Dell XPS 13. Possibly an Asus, as it generally is just a couch potato.

PC

Waiting for Ryzen to mature and actually get some good ITX boards, then I'll build a very SFF build with Ryzen 5. Really hoping Vega has some ITX cards.

Monitor

Depends on Vega, but either a 29" 21:9 or a nice 24" IPS. Possibly a 38" 21:9, but we'll see how Vega performs.

Other

Bluetooth headphones, something higher end.

2TB external drive for the Xbox.

Towards Black Friday I'm hooking up with a Mechanical Keyboard, with a quiet version of the Cherry Blues (Forgot what they're called) but more importantly a CPU upgrade. If I can complete my projects soon enough it'll lead to an upgrade to Linux for Game Dev. (Windows bothers me but I'd rather not mess with my PC whilst these projects are IN progress.)

Just grabbed a Yoga Book for use on the go (I know, it's only got an Atom but I do very little intense work away from my study, and I wanted something super light, with great battery life and a build/screen that won't drive me insane).

I'm following Ryzen closely, since my Xeon is a few years old now and 8c/16t Intel chips are way too expensive for me. In the same vein, I've noticed a bunch of really good ($500-ish) deals on 980Ti's around so maybe one of those is coming.

I also definitely need  more storage, there's 30GB left on my SSD (Because I can't store anything on it) and like 50GB remaining on the HDD so a couple more terabytes will be good.

Monitor is fine for now, since my PC definitely can't power a WQHD screen and Freesync is the best thing since sliced bread.

In terms of phones, my 6P is getting on a bit now so I'll wait for the iPhone 8 and Pixel 2 to arrive, then make a choice out of those and the s8. Maybe I'll even consider the Note 8, but that's likely to be overpriced as hell.

Well not me but my company will be getting a new green room for recording mixed reality, and we're getting our Rift in about a month or so.

I tried the browns at a micro center once and fell in love, but I think the new color was clear. LTT techquickie did a new switches video about a month ago.

That or maybe blacks, I think TotalBiscuit The Cynical Brit uses those because they're quiet.

Thinking about a Ryzen system myself. The CPU already seems to be a good bit faster than when it launched, so maybe by the time I decide to upgrade (Q3ish) it'll be even better. I was gonna buy triple 1080p displays to replace my janky single 1600x900 and two 1280x1024 display setup very soon, but I'm just gonna wait till I buy a new system now. I also plan on buying some sort of laptop before then, maybe something like a used Macbook Pro 2012. As for my phone, I'm already more than satisfied with my s5, so it would be a complete waste to upgrade it.

I have the cash tucked away to build that Ryzen system (thinking r71700+gtx1070) right now, but I'm just gonna wait. May as well wait for Vega to roll around while I'm at it. For some reason I don't have too much hope for it, but I may as well play it safe. :P

i7 2600k @ 5GHz 1.49v - EVGA GTX 1070 ACX 3.0 - 16GB DDR3 2000MHz Corsair Vengence

Asus p8z77-v lk - 480GB Samsung 870 EVO w/ W10 LTSC - 2x1TB HDD storage - 240GB SATA SSD w/ W7 - EVGA 650w 80+G G2

3x 1080p 60hz Viewsonic LCDs, 1 glorious Dell CRT running at anywhere from 60hz to 120hz

I may be getting a new laptop in a week

Read my thread about microcenter debacle if u want more info

I like to kill hardware. In 2016 alone I have killed 20 Xeon 5160, and 10+ Pentium 4.

Oh yeah the clears came out not long ago, I think they're the same but actuate higher up. The blacks are linear though right?

Just trying to convince my wife to let me get an asus dual 1070 since it fits my build perfectly, and getting Ghost recon wildlands with it is pretty enticing since I'm lacking any good fps games....even tried to offer my wife no computer upgrades for 3 years, she just won't play ball. Maybe just get a cheaper 1070 variant? unless the dual is the cheapest in your area.

it's like $10 more than the cheapest, that won't change the equation and it fits my black and white build and mobo brand so I'll be fine with the $10 "premium"

Upgrading my desktop over the summer.  I'm waiting to see what Ryzen 5 brings before deciding to pull the trigger on a Core i5 6500 or not.

But it's going to be an orange theme either way.  Other than that, if you want to count various cable management supplies or one of those video game racks as a form of tech, then add that in too.

Currently focusing on my video game collection.

It doesn't matter what you play games on, just play good games you enjoy.

Are you just hating the larger phone size? The 6P is far from small...

The Note8 was no more expensive than a higher spec Pixel...

A 980Ti isn't a great card, I'm pretty sure the 1070 beats it.
