You don't "dominate" in the budget area. You don't even want to be in there, this is where you dump your stock. You make your profit on the high-marging high-end market. It's because they have been in that lower part of the market for so long, and only there, that their brand has been dubbed "cheap alternative". And they lack the margins of the high-end market to put into newer/better products.

 

But they can't get out of that pit because they have terrible marketing, and they're salty as hell on their social media platforms. And lashing out to other companies as if it's somehow their fault they're succesful and they are not.

Im sorry to ask but I'm confuzzled, who did what to who now?

AMD could do the same in games like Hitman if they wanted too.  I really think AMD should do that more if they wanna get some profit.

no point.

 

they arent the majority holder, so if they pull it. less people will buy those games rather then more people buying AMD.

you do realize that the BULK of cards being sold, where 90%+ of the money lies is the in 960/380/970/390???

 

those are the cards "average joe" buys. Those are the cards you REALLY need to sell a lot of.

Yes, and Nvidia sold A LOT of 970's.

 

 

Also you do realize that there is no way AMD makes more money selling 390's with 8gb of VRAM and their massive cores than Nvidia selling their tiny more expensive 970's.

Ouch. What a shame. I'm no economist, but hopefully that up 11% trend will continue. Even if it is up from a .5 baseline, compared to a few years are.

Except Nvidia is selling their 398mm2 cards for 550 euro, and AMD is selling their 438mm2 cards for the same price as a 970. 

 

It's even worse for the GTX 960 vs R9-380. That card is 228mm2 vs. 366mm2. It's truly a slaughtering ground....

what happens with our brand new ZEN and Polaris if AMD goes under - U'r fckd! no matter MicroSoft phasing you out, AMD will do it for them  ^_^

I'm not sure about the Fiji cards because those are relatively new and the manufacturing cost is probably a lot more, but they're still making a lot of money on their 390 series, just not enough the break even with the R&D costs. Operating on a loss isn't really an issue if you're a big public tech company, but the issue is that AMD has become significantly smaller and their perceived value is a lot lower.

To bad if AMD goes broke Intel and Nvidia will get into problems legally if Intel have 80% of the CPU market they may have to split their company into two or maybe give 40% to AMD... :P (source a smart guy I know)

They already have a second company under the radar investing in AMD

Another Zmuel post about AMD failing. This was both predicted and expected, AMD have been getting spanked pretty much everywhere for years now.

Let's wait for Zen & Arctic Islands and the 2017 yearly report before we write AMD off shall we.

 

AMD fucked up rebadging the last 2 generations of cards then not pulling their socks up with the CPU market. A lot of stuff has been done wrong with AMD and I really hope things change when Zen launches because if not intel will keep bringing chips out with 2-5% more performance with massive price hikes.

I'm not sure about the Fiji cards because those are relatively new and the manufacturing cost is probably a lot more, but they're still making a lot of money on their 390 series, just not enough the break even with the R&D costs. Operating on a loss isn't really an issue if you're a big public tech company, but the issue is that AMD has become significantly smaller and their perceived value is a lot lower. 

 

Meh, nvidia makes more on their 970's and 980's... smaller chips, higher selling price. Not even reflected in the actual sales prices, because board manuf. have to put more components (higher power load, so more VRM's etc) on the AMD cards and still sell them competitively.

The 9xx series cards have been great, the features and performance with low temps, beautiful! I love my 970s they're pretty good, maybe a bit expensive but the features are nice to have and when I sort out my internet I'd love an nvidia shield.

Actually likely not.  If AMD goes bust, Intel and nVidia will be fine so long as they don't abuse their market position.  Intel has pretty much been a monopoly for performance CPUS since the flop of Bulldozer.  If AMD goes up in flames - they'll have their assets cannibalized by Intel and nVidia.  nVidia would likely be snatching up their CPU division and negotiating a license with Intel and Intel would be consuming the Radeon Technologies Group and finally be getting in to the dedicated market like they've been wanting to.  Which would mean they'd go for the kill against one another and we'd see glorious innovation and competition for control of the market.  The streets would run with turquoise-colored blood.
