Windows 10 has been out less than a week and someone has already created a tool

to disable tracking analytic from Microsoft and give those who want it, their privacy back.

 

How the tools works:

It disables telemetry through the registry

Disabled the AutoLogger found under DiagTrack

Deletes and disables services

Changes Host Files.

My thoughts?

Damn, that was fast. While the tracking is on my mind from time to time, I don't really care.

There are plenty of ways to recover information. It is nice to know there is an option to turn these features off now.

While I understand some users hesitance to use this program, that's fine. I'm not forcing you to use it.

It's not a tin foil hat thing. Your data is being collected. It's not malicious necessarily, but like facebook, google services, ect, if it's free, you are the product. It bothers a lot of people, even though it probably is nothing more than an advertising profile and other similar data, likely without much actual personal information attached.

. On the more tinfoil hat area of it, if the NSA somehow pressured microsoft to put a goverment backdoor in bitlocker or something, that would have happened regardless of the outward appearance of how secure and private 10 is. Totally separate potential issue.

Which is why those who are smart look at the source code, so we can see for ourselves whether or not the tool is malicious.

But i won't run a reckless tool that change my PC hose file, registry, telemetry, or diatracklog, it like let your doctor do a surgery on your body without knowing what the hell is going on. I won't run or trust without those virustotal.com result.
