Intel Pentium D & Xeon D Preliminary Specs, The D is Back

Entry-level models will be branded as "Pentium D". They will come with 2 or 4 CPU cores and will have lower power consumption. Dual-core D-1503 and D-1507 SKUs will fit into 17 Watt and 25 Watt power envelope. Pentium D-1517 will double the number of cores to 4, while using the same TDP rating as the D-1507. It is possible that Pentium Ds will lack some features compared to Xeon Ds.

a multi billion dollar company, and the only letters intel can afford is c,d,k,r, and x. :P

Are these BGA or LGA socket processors?

 

If LGA, I want that 6-core Xeon in a Z motherboard pronto, given the likely price to not be that high.

 

If BGA, it's just another round of nope.

The last Pentium D ever sold was LGA.

These are systems on chip, so they wont use a normal socket, or even any standard BGA, since all they need to have in terms of pins is PCIe/USB/SATA out and power in

Seriously, read about them like a few months ago, didn't know it was just launched. If I remember what I read. A single Xeon E5 or E7 will still be powerful than Xeon D, but they run hot. With Xeon D, when you have a bunch of them combine together, it should out perform a Xeon E5, E7 and still run cool.

If you're saying 8 core and 6 core shouldn't you say 4 core and 2 core. Keep it consistent.
