What sets your system apart?

But...but...

Intake:

  • 7x 120mm

Exhaust:

  • 5x 120mm

My temps don't seem to have been affected after switching out from a NZXT Phantom 530 with intake: 1x200mm, 2x120mm, exhaust: 2x200mm & 1x140mm. The graphics card does seem to run cooler now after the swap.

I also have 2x optical drives in the system but I hardly ever use them and waiting for the arrival of a new case that can take a couple more months from now.

If we are talking pure fans I have 8 120mm on the front rad as intake. Then have 6 120mm as exhaust on a second rad... then a single 140mm in the back for exhaust. I have enough room for another 7 120's or 14 if they are push pull on a rad if needed... Might need to add another extremely over kill 360mm rad to the bottom of my case lol

Damn, I can add another 4 120mm fans for intake on the side but I doubt there is room due to the PSU cables in that area. Its just purely for airflow on air cooling my case.😂

I've seen a number of build requests here for Ryzen system, the vast majority are for that matter. All good, Ryzen is apparently the king of the hill right now, but I see a lot of near-identical builds for that matter as well (Ryzen, nVidia 20xx GPU, RGB out the ears, etc) but of course one size does not fit all, so, in your opinion, what sets your system apart from the next guy?

I'll start:

Dual Xeons

No RGB

Workstation GFX card (Amd Radeon Pro WX 7100)

4 NAS systems

4 internal drives on a SAS controller

5 m.2 drives on a PCIe controller

 Mine's similar:

Dual 8-core Xeon e5-2690 (2900-3800mHz)

RX 570 (waiting for 6800xt to become buyable)

Don't have 4 internal drives, but have 2 2tb, 6 platter 7200rpm HDDs in there from 2012, plus SSD

Also, I have a soundcard. That's not common these days, but my motherboard audio was just that bad.

The only video output in use on my media PC is s-video to a 25" Sony Trinitron on my desk. Watching TV on a CRT is my happy place, and it's excellent for emulators.

Haha I never noticed how archaic your computer is. Then again, the one I'm using right now isn't much newer.

It definitely doesn't feel as...snappy...as something even a few generations newer though.

Funny thing is that I actually upgraded (or downgraded) it from the 1100T recently. But yeah, not something I would show off. Unpainted steel insides = 0% chance of having the cabling blend in.

It feels alright. But there have been times where it just... hangs for no reason. Not sure why. I've been through multiple Windows reinstallations, swapped SSDs, swapped SATA cables, same thing. Though it at least isn't corrupting itself now...

My GPU with Noctua fans strapped onto it.

Spoiler

jnueHgX.jpg

Still going strong since April of last year. No choice... There's literally no GPU available I can replace it with...

Also, no RGB whatsoever in the case... Or any LED for that matter, other than the one on the motherboard itself. No light pollution here.

Oh and I placed my side panel window at the TOP of my case. I'm using it as a shelf. Because it's literally pointless to look inside a computer case after the first day.

I also added some sound absorbing materials on every side panels, with the only clearance being for the fans.

Heavily modified case, no RGB, no window in the side panel.

Edit: actually, looks like "No RGB and no windowed side panel" seem to be rather common in this thread, so I guess that just leaves the heavily modified case.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
        In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
        In Flanders fields.

Actually, instead of making fun of myself and the thread, I oughta explain a couple of quirks:

  1. It has two capture cards! Digital Foundry, eat your heart out.
  2. It looks extremely boring... by design. The Cooler Master N400 will do that to a PC with an 8-core CPU, that's for sure.

What sets my system apart......

It might catch on fire because of a bad design fault on the PCIe Riser...

In my case (e5-2643 v2 which makes for 12 cores and 24 threads) I hit 60fps on the few games I do play, but due to the fact my monitors are for work and not gaming, they are only 60Hz refresh rate, so locked to that. Doom 2016, Minecraft, Armoured Warfare, a few modest top down/isometric games, Destiny 2 seems to play very well despite not meeting the minimum system reqs.

In other words, I have no complaints.

They are actually quite good, when it comes to intensive gaming. They make up for lower clock speed with high core count in multithreaded games. However, my machine is mainly used for CAD where I need to do lots of CPU rendering.

Certainly, if there are any games you want me to try (that are either cheap, free or have a demo) I'll be happy to.

If you are considering a system like this (dual Ivy Bridge Xeons) there are some great options out there, including my spare system, a Dell Precision T5610 that I can sell you for cheap (twin e5 Xeons, 16GB DDR3 ECC Registered RAM, SSD, GTX 660, wireless, etc)

there is also a dedicated YT channel that reviews their oddball x79/x99/x58 "reconstructed" mobos from AliExpress. The channel is called 'Miyconst' and it's here:
