Explain Your Username

Not my own idea, actually, but it generally tends to be available, and in a way I love it. I see it as a kind of self-humour that shows your acceptance of the fact that you aren't an expert. In matters we discuss here I'm hardly new, just never having progressed beyond a certain level. Ever an amateur, not even a semi-pro.

First name starts with S. Last name 'Chew.

Happy coincidence that if you mash 'em together, out pops a fancy English word I happen to like.

 

This is the only place I've used "Eschew," though. Other places, I tend to use "Geminox" as my username.

Combines my two biggest interests: tech and weather.

 

The 970 is from my gamertag typhoon970.  Fun fact: typhoon970 was originally supposed to be typhoon870, referring to Typhoon Tip's record low pressure reading of 870 mb in 1979.  However, I made a typo, and this was back when you couldn't change your Minecraft username.  (Ah, 1.7!  The good ol' days!)  I found that typhoon970 rolled off the tongue better than typhoon870, so I stuck with it.  (970 mb is a rather typical pressure for a typhoon so it still works.)

Long ago, like way long ago, I needed to come up with a username. I came up with pirate for whatever reason. Surprisingly, it's kinda common. So I says fook it, and added monkey to the end. Even more surprisingly, people have taken that name someplaces, so I sometimes add 420 or some numbers to the end. There really is no cool story.

Mine is what GEnie* gave me back in 85 before the WWW. The service cost me about $6 an hour and I used it on a dedicated line.

It is what I used to get on to the internet before the world wide web.  

 

The animation is my last name in cartouche form. I studied Egyptology in the 70s so I have books on how to read hieroglyphs.

I made it in 2000 with Lightwave 3D and it was on my website. I just found it recently and since it was designed for old viewers it has an extra frame on the end of the loop that creates a pause on new players.
