Google thinks farting isnt child friendly for the youngest.

Mihle

So, the national TV channel here, NRK, have a fabric figure, called "Fantorangen" that is this aimed at children and is in programs for children.

The figure do have an app, where children can follow him doing different stuff, everything from making food, to cleaning to you guessed it, go to the toilet.

When he does go to the toilet, the user of the app would hear farting noises and stuff.

In Google play, Google have continued marking it for 9-12 year olds, higher than who the app actually is aimed at.

Quote

-This comes up every time we update our app. It has been communicated several times by Google that it is the farting that are the problem. So we get temporary approval, and then there will be a new comment the next time we update, says Gulliksen, editor of NRK child TV

So NRK thinks farting is totally ok for young children, but for some reason Google think its not.

I have to say, I agree with NRK. How does farting sounds hurt children in any form, they think themselves it is funny??!!!

The world is reaching a point where people can no longer decide what's best for themselves and their dependants, instead we are being told what is best for us by people who are so far detached from reality that they barely understand how life works for every day normal people.

In 10 years time the internet will simply be TV 2.0, everything will be restricted by so many rules and regulations that will render it unrecognisable.

Isn't it already? When I was a kid, we didn't have any age restriction icons, age restriction warnings, age restrictions and ratings on games or recommendations before movies, hell, there were no "warning, shocking scenes" in documentaries about frigging African wildlife. This alone tells how stupid out society has gotten. Or warnings about flashing scenes in fucking Quake game. It's a freaking first person shooter, of course it has bloody flashing lights and shit. That's about as obvious as saying salt is salty and water is wet. Fooking hell.

Is this really news though? Nevermind tech news.

Its news, because I dont remember any other case where farting sounds made the age on a thing go up.

Also, its tech, its software, an app, on play store, and also Google. Its more tech than some other things that have been in the Tech news forum....

How many children's apps with farting noises are popular enough for anyone to notice?

I've definitely seen worse but... the only possible avenue of discussion here is whether or not farts are appropriate for children, which is hardly tech...

The blood is on your hands

Why did you come to this world?

Everybody turns to dust.

I agree with most of what you are saying but the flashing light warning is for people who suffer from epilepsy so it is pretty important tell warn them that the game has flashing of that magnitude because there are alot of shooters where that is a nonissue.

Really this isn't a suprise. Look the problem is that Google, and other companies like it, are functionally media service providers. But unlike other media service providers they're being expected to entirely self regulate instead of being subject to the oversight of the myriad of ratings and content approval agencies. That put them in a really bad position legally as it means they have to make sure they don't fall afoul of any possibble negetive opinion in any country worldwide or they could find themselves up in court somwhere in the world over it. It's forcing Google to be overactivly careful in everything it does.

Dude, how old are you? Moral censorship in media has been around since the 1920s.

That said, I don't disagree, we used to have a bit more pragmatism around which content would be best viewed by which audience. It seems that everything needs to be rigidly written into law these days simply to avoid a costly lawsuit for the makers of Bloodfest 3: Carnage and Boobs.

However, we're also seeing a lot of this self-regulation to avoid getting governments involved, because that's how you get surprise mechanics. Unfortunately, moral guardians in countries like the US, UK, Australia and China have had a very good track record of manipulating public and political opinion away from companies and products. Certain films, games and books have been banned because enough people took offense and took their offense to politicians.

When I was a kid and that wasn't in 1920's, it was nowhere as bad as it is now. Like, NOWHERE near. Today it seems like everyone needs to be cuddled like toddlers and treated like absolute fragile idiots. Warning here, warning there, everything censored coz think of the children! Oh my god, our society has become retarded.

When I was a kid in the 80s and early 90s it was VERY different. Things started changing in the late 90s and in the 2000s everything went batshit.

Unfortunately it's this nanny state PC nonsense that's lead to the rise of things like Feminism, everyone thinks their opinion is the only one that counts because they're being taught from a young age that that's how the world works.

I don't think that is a problem because of the people - it's a problem because of the companies that stand to lose money because of it. A lot of warnings and age ratings only exist to semi-legally cover the shareholders' hindquarters. Kid traumatised because they saw It at 4 years old? "Well, we told you not to watch it until you were at least 15!"

When I was a kid, Robocop and Rambo were simultaneously saturday morning kids' cartoons and R-rated adult movies.

People don't think of the children, nor do corporations. It's all to maximize profits because there's more money in being child-friendly than not being child-friendly when it comes to literal children's entertainment. Courting controversy there will not lead to an increase in sales.
