My Thoughts:
So... is this included in my prime subscription? Jokes aside, it's good to see more companies are competing to provide internet to those communities that don't have it. While they will make money off their investment, the ability to easily communicate ideas, creations, and opinions is important for our society and helps promote technological, societal, and economic growth.

These satellites are likely very small. They can probably deploy several dozen to several hundred at a time

Curious as to what the Latency will be. Satellite is obviously slower compared to a wire but I wonder if games will be playable on this.

That shit still exist?!

I mean its good for surfin in da woods.

But the Latency is just unbelievable bad. And its  shared bandwith thingy.

Meaning if the Sattelite has 1000Gbit/sec Bandwith in Theory. That is a nice number. 

And also pretty niche if there are only 1.000 people on that one sattelite.

But when there are 100.000 people on the sattelite its where it starts to get really bad.

 

I had it at one time, back in the day and invested in the necessary hardware.

 

The Problem with that system is that you either need a regular backchannel for example your Phone Line, mobille for example.

 

Or you need a special sattelite head that is able to send - and those things are really expensive.

A normal receiving only thing is pretty cheap. Back in the day when I was into it, it was something like 20€ or so for a single head or 50-100€ for a Quad Head...

Ya OneWeb is planning on 600 SATs and SpaceX is planning on 1000.

 

LEO is got to be a game changer in internet distribution and SAT internet in general.

Its gotten better. my dad has hueghs net gen5 hardware and while i for sure would not game on it, its more than capable of any thing else. No need for the extra phone lines (I;m failrly certin that has not been needed for a long time) he got free installation, and I think pays about 50 a month.

 

Also keep in mind these are a new type of satellite, and are low orbit, they will be much closer to the earth than what is currently offered from other companies. ergo lower latency.

The current GEO SAT internet has a expected Latancy of 600 ms with a standard consumer speed of 25-50 Mbps.

My companies Internet should double when next gen rolls out.

 

But this is  LEO which is over 10x closer to earth which we should see latency of a estimated 25-40 ms (thats what OneWeb reported)

 

LEO should make playing online games possible, not that I am saying it will be the best but possible.

You could play Apex Legends in the middle of death valley.
