I still like the design of Quadro RTX, even their cooler shroud is Ray Trace. Rest of Nvidia RTX line up looks like shit.

The 2080Ti is only priced as a Titan replacement, but the Quadro is the pro card.

so instead of 40fps in battlefield at 1080p with RTX on, we'll get 50 now?

Nvidia has always said the Titans were pro cards, many of the tech youtubes have had and talked about having that very argument with Nvidia when trying to get samples of the cards. It's about as Pro as the Vega FE was, but only after Nvidia rolled in many of the Quadro driver optimizations in to the Titan drivers because of Vega FE. Before Vega FE they were not Pro cards.

 

Titan V is very much a pro card, this Titan RTX probably is too but the only Titan cards before these that we could really call Pro was the very first Titan card before Nvidia cut them down and made them a gaming card.

 

But this doesn't really change that people were in the past buying "pro cards" for gaming and at a later date Nvidia would release a slightly different cheaper config i.e. xx80 Ti. I'm willing to bet this Titan RTX has at least more 2 SMs enabled, if not 4, or like the Titan V will use TU100 making it nothing at all like the 2080 Ti.

 

So we're still left with the 2080 Ti not having a TU102 die with a Titan configuration and memory and a really large price increase for the top tier Ti buyers and no cheaper option like in the past.

 

TL;DR 2080 Ti is not a Titan replacement while lacking the use of a Titan TU102 configuration and driver optimizations.

yeah it definitely wasn't an accident. If it was I'm sure nvidia would be pretty mad since ya know, nvidia owns linus media group.

Interesting development given the amount of reviewers and consumers who were going along with the "2080Ti = Titan" theory. Given that some custom 2080 Ti's are as high as $1349 and will go higher once the top cards from everyone are out (EVGA classified, Gigabyte XTREME...) I could easily see this go for $1999+.

They wouldn't use the new FE cooler on a professional card. The titan has always been marketed as for pros thats why it costs so much more but people said the 2080ti replaced the RTX titan which isn't true

Yep the only people who care about the titan being anything in specific are forum debaters.  Nvidia will call it whatever sells the most units.  Right up until the titan V nvidia had "gaming" as the most prominent word on the titans landing page.

Ya, I only meant replacement as the top "gaming" card not replacing it in the other sense.  That's what I think Nvidia, or whoever I got that info from months ago, meant.

Yet this Titan will be better at gaming than the 2080 Ti.

So we're still left with the 2080 Ti not having a TU102 die with a Titan configuration and memory and a really large price increase for the top tier Ti buyers and no cheaper option like in the past.

 

TL;DR 2080 Ti is not a Titan replacement while lacking the use of a Titan TU102 configuration and driver optimizations.

It's going to be the TU100 die and probably 3k each. They gotta pawn off those defective dies on someone.

So we had the old stack being $800 for the non Ti, $1,200 for the Ti and $3,000 for the TItan.

Given its now $2,500 for the Ti does this mean the Titan this time around will retail for $8,000 ?

Because Nvidia sells all of the Titans directly, they probably understand their audience for them. If the Star Wars branded ones are anything to go by, I think it's safe to assume they know they can charge massive premium for them and will sell roughly the same amount. Since as they're the same basic design as the rest of the RTX line, Gaming support will be a lot easier than with Volta. 

 

Also, it's probably going to be at least 2020 before Nvidia could release a GPU that's actually faster for gaming. The 2019 Volta replacement will likely be HBM-based again on 7nm, so game issues would still be there. Nvidia might only actually be bringing that Titan performance down to the Ti in the next go around.
