I actually find this hilarious but at the same time appalling that Zuck would do such a thing. What if I'm a Facebook exec and I'd love to FaceTime and iMessage my family members and don't want to use Google Hangouts?

Well Apple makes money not from ads but from devices (Macs, iPhones, iPads) and services (iTunes). So I can see why Apple might charge more but I don't really get as to why Zuck said the one in bold for one, they don't sell any hardware and secondly, using Facebook is free. It's not like Facebook has any control to Google Play services. Facebook tried many times to enter the phone business by partnering with Android OEM's like HTC to make Facebook phones [here][here] but they suck. While it's true that Apple made devices are expensive, same can be said with their competitors so I guess this action by Mark Zuckerberg is out of frustration.

i'd argue that facebook conducting psychological experiments on users without their knowledge (source) is a lot worse than apple making devices difficult to repair. 

 

i'm not saying i agree with all of Apple's practices but Facebook's are a lot worse in my opinion.

Apple actually does care a good bit about security practices. Facebook on the other hand got gifted a lot of influence and "we'll look the other way" in the early days because the data collection was extremely useful to a lot of people. Until Snowden's releases, the NSA had unfettered access to the entire Facebook network. (Not that they don't still do, but it was a lot easier then.)

 

Facebook is worse though, but the main thing with Facebook is actually using it is corrosive on people's psychological state. Social Media isn't really the future. It's just going to be a really ugly 2 decades of history.

let's compare. Windows 10 has tons of privacy options, and you can't opt-out of telemetry. meanwhile at apple: 

3 buttons, in one menu. at least on privacy, they are loads better than Micro$oft.

No, it APPEARS that way. But without monitoring traffic of a clean Mac isolated on a network, you don't have verification of that.

Not so. All the data harvested by Windows 10 is tagged with identifiers that make it personally-identifying. None of it is anonymous.

The problem with Facebook is that it's too big and has immunity for all sorts of things for which most other companies would bankrupt when they'd cock up. Or get such astronomical fines they'd stop dicking around. Like the last one for which Suckerberg was "questioned" in front of congress. Why the F even? Smack them with astronomical fine and repeat every time they do it. Huge corporations only learn through money. Or shall I say when they bleed large amounts of it...

 

The other baffling part are the users on Facebook. Facebook openly uses their personal info to make billions and everyone's fine with it. They cocked up and let basically everyone have access even to private data not shared with everyone. And everyone is fine with it. What the hell people, are they all so dumb or something? I bet they'd be fine with it if Facebook sold their house and their dog. Coz it's Facebook. Just wow. I think people really are this clueless, can't explain it any other way.
