The connecter is a USB C connector indeed. I'm not sure if it works with USB 3.1 protocols though. It is supposed to provide power and drive 2 displays for VR.

It is listed under display connectors in the specs.

Seriously, the cut down big die has gone from $330 with the GTX 570 to $1200 with the GTX 2080 Ti. Are people actually going to pay these prices?
