iPad Pro 2018, No Headphone Jack

19 hours ago, RorzNZ said:

Thats very true but I don't think about it because I just plug everything in at night. It will get more convenient with wireless charging.

If you are buying a high-end phone with no headphone jack, then you can probably afford nice headphones. It's like putting a cheap case on an iPhone or MacBook, they are expensive devices, why buy anything cheap?

It's not that much of a battery drain, especially for flagship devices like these - the new iPad will probably have a large capable battery anyway.

You buy these for a portable device? You're going to be plugging something in at night.

Thats true and these are all very valid reasons, but now it's beginning to turn differently and wireless is the future. Wireless headphones sound great, and are more compatible than ever before. If you have the money (Which if you buy a flagship device - which will probably not have a headphone jack now), it's definitely a game changer. Theres definitely certain applications, such as sound editing - which one might expect to do on an iPad Pro, that would be applicable to a cabled headphones. However if you are carrying around those large, clunky headphones (And a 13" tablet), then the small adapter really isn't so bad.

I think you meant expensive headphones not nice headphones. The vast majority of bt headphones are mediocre at best. If you want nice headphones you would buy wired ones so I think I would have to disagree.

My Thoughts

A second Lightning port? At least make up for the port that Apple removed with a better, multipurpose port.

There's a bigger problem.

The same source claims that the placement of the FaceID module is on the top of the device in portrait.

How exactly does Apple expect people to be using a gargantuan thing mostly in portrait???

May be true, but I've heard better wireless than my M50X headphones, although not for the price, but much better too.

I use my 10.5 in portrait often. Not sure what the difficulty is.

Then replacing the M50Xs is long overdue.

APTX is able to reproduce audio very close to the quality of analog. It doesn't have all the clipping and loss that normal bluetooth does. Then again does Apple even support APTX?

wireless charging solves the music while charging problem.

  1. Not every phone that lacks a headphone jack has wireless charging
  2. Wireless charging degrades battery cells faster than wired charging
  3. Throwing more accessories at a $600 - $1000 phone to solve problems that previously did not exist until Apple grew "courageous" (read: wanted to sell Beats wireless headphones so they could make more money at the expense of the consumer) is not a solution

No shit. My Crossfade Wireless set sounds far better wired. It's also, by far, the best wireless headphones I've tried.

I think you are on to something. I think there is a reason most audiophile brands don't even have Bluetooth headphones.

I think if people are happy with the current offerings of BT/wireless and that suits their needs then you will not convince them wired is better, just like I have come to appreciate automatic gearbox's in a very serious way, you are never going to convince me a manual is better for everyday driving.

However that doesn't mean there are very distinct advantages to wired and very good reasons why the HP jack should  not be removed.  I personally hate android,  but with WP being harder to find and apple no longer having the jack means I am stuck with android until I find a BT solution I appreciate.

Grammar and spelling is not indicative of intelligence/knowledge.  Not having the same opinion does not always mean lack of understanding.

Claims they removed the headphone jack to make way for a bigger battery and more internals, still makes the device slimming. I don't have an engineering degree Apple, but I'm pretty sure you just undid all of you work from removing said jack. Someone tell their marketing that their customers have brains.

Face id on a tablet is far more of a reason to be angry than the headphone jack.

Audiophile headphones are the worst for low quality sources because it makes the flaws stick out

Seriously though, I'm glad I'm not an avid apple user. Shame this shit's coming to android phones since apple thought it'd be a good idea...

AptX is a pretty good solution. My headphones actually connect with LDAC to my phone, though that's much less widely available.

Yeah that is true for sure. When you can hear everything so clear and crisp any flaws stand way out where as when all the audio is sort of jumbled together in one huge mess it can easily mask those flaws.

It’s not difficult but I’ve always felt iPads are landscape devices.

I don't care what port they put on it as long as there is 2 of them one for charging and one for audio or whatever else
