i7 14700 + rtx 4070 with evga 650w g2 power supply?

TTboyx

I want to know if i should try my luck with upgrading my i7 8700 to a i7 14700 cpu

I have like 8 fans in my pc 3 HDDs and 2 nvme's in my build

Idk how much power my fans and HDDs consume so thats why i need help

What i do know is that the i7 14700 on all cores draw about 220w 😭

And also if im upgrading cpu i will be upgrading my ram to ddr5 and motherboard so thats even more power consumption

Well Nvidia says the lowest PSU you can use with a 4070 and a Ryzen 5 5900x is a 600w. Thing is, the 5900x only uses about 105-110 watts of power and the I7 consumes about 280 watts under load so idk man. Personally I would upgrade. It probably will still run, Linus has run a 4090 on a 500w PSU or something before so it probably will work but it might damage your components.

My First PC
CPU: Ryzen 5 5600x
Cooler: Asus TUF Gaming LC240
Motherboard: Asus ROG Strix B550-f gaming
RAM: 4x8 GB Corsair Vengeance RS (3200 MHz, CL16)
Storage: 1tb Samsung 980 Pro
Graphics Card: Asus Dual RTX 2060 OC
Case: Deepcool Matrexx 50
Power Supply: Corsair RM650x
Headset: Razer Blackshark V2
Keyboard: Corsair K70 Pro Mini (Speed Silver switches)
Mouse: Razer Viper Mini
Only changes I have made is I sold the 2060 for $235 AUD and bought a Powercolor Red Devil 6700 XT for $400 second hand (it was barely used, think I scored a deal on Ebay with that).
I'm learning video editing and trying to get some cash as a high school student.
I like F1, my favourite team is Scuderia Ferrari and favourite driver is Charles Leclerc. Favourite track is Red Bull Ring in Austria.
Playing with a 1080p 60hz monitor right now, hoping to upgrade to a 1440p 144hz one soon.

Living in AU and that pisses me off since every event is late at night or early in the morning (almost every F1 race starts around 11 PM AEST time)

So did I.   I have owned 7 intel CPU's over the years and my first AMD cpu was the 7700x and I am having such a good time with it.

AM5 is just so efficient compared to intel.

Check this video for example. We are seeing intel draw 213w while the 7800X3D gets more frames at 54w.

Its of course up to you. The 14700 is a good CPU, no denying that.

Yup. The only reason I ended up with a 14700k is because the 7800x3d was out of stock at microcenter and I didn't want to make the drive twice haha

Slight correction: It's not CAN, it's SHOULD. You can use a 650W or a 600W, you just won't have a lot of headroom

What do you recommend personally? i heard some people draw more than 300w on a i7 14700 under stress

You think i should upgrade to a 850w?
