Although using the tools built into some motherboards you can lock it to run all cores the way it would run a single one without even having to technically touch overclocking manually dial in an overclock - just flip a switch and you get closer to the full potential from it, and in a way that's likely to work for everyone and not instability

I'm old enough to barely remember the original Pentium, but this is interesting. I'm curious to see if they binned these well above the 8700k.

We need to bring the Turbo Button back.

I kinda have the opposite. Wired reset button on my case to clear CMOS, for when my memory gets too fast, that it refuses to boot, lol.

This was not done by choice, for some reason, ASRock thought it was a good idea to remove the clear CMOS button from the back of their board, and from any on-board buttons. They also neglected to provide an actual jumper internally :(

You can run just about any unlocked Intel processor from the past 5 years at up to 5GHz. Requires some actual tuning though.

Normies don't have time for that. They just want it nice and ez. And here they have it.

With the 8700k specifically as far as I know it's actually pretty easy to get that

Honestly might as well just buy one from silicon lottery. Then you get a guaranteed 5ghz and it's delidded so no need to worry about it running too hot as long as you have a proper cooler. It will be interesting to see if this will be more expensive then one from silicon lottery.

With the alleged cherry picked 8700k thing recently several tech tubers have been revisiting overclocking of them, and in short, golden samples are hitting 5.2 all cores, with a majority hitting 5.0 or 5.1. If we assume this CPU will come at a price premium, they could bin the best of the best CPUs, running them at only 5.0 should allow power to be rather more controlled.
