Hi everyone, yes I am still alive and I am now back after a few weeks absence.

I did make a post about it all but it was deamed a personal update and moved over to off topic. If you want to know the full story of what happened you can check it out here -

Anyway I'm back and both my folding systems are back to running 24/7. In a case of very bad timing when this all happened I only need a few million points to hit Diamond Contributor now I need another 1.5 Billion points that kinds of sucks but oh well.

So I had one of my rigs get stuck and needed a reboot this morning. All my slots are running Project 13444 which appears to be a moonshot WU though there isn't a sprint going on.

This was a good opportunity though to observe the efficiency of the slots in question so I intentionally left both the slots at the default Power Limits.

The RTX 2070 Super Hybrid is reporting 3.3MPPD at a 215W Power Limit while my other 2070 Super Hybrids are all reporting 2.8MPPD on their minimum Power Limits of 125W. So a 41% decrease in the GPUs Power yields only a 15% decrease in it's output.

Just some food for thought ... I know many folks here are rabid enthusiasts and keeping with the LTT "Balls to the Wall" ethos we want to push our hardware to the limit and then some but in this case backing off the Power Limit while running 24x7 will make the thermals in our rigs easier to manage and have less of a hit on our power bills.

Confession time, I haven't been folding for a while now. It was getting annoying having to turn it on and off whenever I needed to use my computer for something else (I don't believe it would ever fold if I put it on idle :/) so I just left it off. I've been thinking of turning it on again, but idk. I still try to help out the community in other ways though (I'm somewhat active in the folding channel on the discord)

Either @piratemonkey or quote me when responding to me. I won't see otherwise

To save me the time of having to read through 10 weeks of posts can someone give me a quick answer as to why 3080's are still so hard to come by. I was just looking around in case the better half will let me buy myself present and eveything is still on per-order or back order. I would have thought all the problems would have been sorted out in the time I was gone.

All GPU's are hard to find. Nvidia are bringing back the 2060 as a result. Demand is also pushing prices on second hand GPU's aswell, which is making me consider selling my 2060's and a 2080S.

Maybe it's time to put the RX580 and RX590 I have sat in the cupboard on ebay.

I have a EVGA 3080 black on order from their web site since October 10th and still haven’t been notified. I’m at the point of not wanting it anymore as I suspect the 3070 will be the better value in terms of PPD/$ but I’ve left it just to see how long before they offer to fulfill it.

I got my 3080 exactly two months after purchase, from Ebuyer in the UK. They never kept me up to date with anything.

I can close the door to the unfinished portion of the basement these days at night and even with 1200W of GPUs going all night long it’s not too warm (26-28C) in there by morning. The benefits of a 47 year old house, no insulation and -10-20C outside.

Hey, it’s Canada. The winters suck so we might as well try to find some silver linings.

I got a text from the NHS (UK), with the results of my Covid test. I currently have Covid, but seems to be very mild. The main symptoms that triggered a test was fatigue and a fever (Started on the 23rd). My temperature didn't for the most time, reach the fever temperature, yet it was elevated. The cough I have, feels like it's pulling crap out of my chest. The coughs I had were only triggering when I took a deep breath.

My main symptoms (In order of notice):

Fatigue (Still ongoing),

Temperature (36.6 -37.9.C),

Headaches,

Stuffy nose

Sprint #5 1/2

I've since got my other GPU's running for the sprint, just to speed things up.

If your in general good health you shouldn't have a problem and be OK in a week or so. While I had to be carted off to hospital for 8 weeks Brenda just had the same kinds of symptoms you have for about a week and then she was fine same kind of thing for my sister and her husband that have had it. From what I learned from the Dr's in hospital for most people who are not in a high risk group Covid is not a big problem. All the people in hospital with me were in one high risk group or another there were no young healthy people.

Covid has barely impacted me. Every now and then tho, I do take a deep breath and cough up anything down there, as it is in my chest.

Decided to clean my rig out from dust. Reassembly went ok. Went to power on, instantly heard a crack then a sudden power off. Will not turn back on now. All I did was plug a (Probably chinese) ADT-link x4 lane cable into the x4 lane on the chipset. The system will turn on without the CPU installed, but no response with it installed. 5 volts is present on the USB and 12 volt is not shorted. Not checked the 3.3 rail, but it looks like my CPU is dead. I just hope the 3080 isn't damaged, as that what was plugged into the PCI cable that went crack.

Did pull the motherboard out to inspect the rear. Nothing unusual. Just hope the motherboard is ok, as it looks like the CPU took a shock from the PCI lane(s). Ordered a 5800x, getting delivered tomorrow. The 5600x, I'm awaiting a reply off the retailer, hope they'll accept an RMA.

Now rocking an I7 860 with a 1070 (Won't boot with the 2060 and 3080). Keeping my gaming habits at bay during my isolation.

welp, i lost a good deal of points because i plugged the network into my server into the IPMI port instead of normal ethernet. d'oh!

i should have normal production again now, but it took me way too long to find this out. without any network my server just sat at download indefinitely.
