I am worried, but I have no choice but to throw another CPU in there and hope it doesn't die. I have no other way of testing. What gives hope is that the board does turn on when the CPU is removed, so the fault isn't persistent on the board itself. Worse case is that I've lost a few PCI lanes, or the death of a new CPU. In that case, It'll be quite a bit of explaining to the retailer.

Well, just tested my 3080. This was the GPU where that chinese adapter was plugged into, that killed my CPU. The GPU seems to be OK, as my test system just posted with it (Albeit, stuck on code 64).

well tell them it was a bad board lol. just leave out the chinses adapter part...

Get the AM4 socket pin out and check for shorts to ground on power pins, at the very least.  Or at the even least-est get a sacrificial CPU like a cheap 2200G or something.

I spent two hours doing windows updates to get GPU hardware aceleration. It appears I've gotten about 100K ppd on 60% power limited cards, but i'll need to let it run a few days to see if the estimated PPD is accurate.

Knowing the risks, I threw the 5800x in the motherboard. No different behaviour. Going to sort out an RMA on the motherboard. Ordered a new one, and it's coming tomorrow. Will have to test my 5600x in there, to see if it'll boot.

hope everyone is doing well. seen a down turn in my daily points but no failed WU. I have seen what looks like WU taking longer.
Anyone know anything?

System back up and running. The 5800X CPU was not affected by the motherboard that I shoved it into. TheX570 X-pro will be RMA'd. It seems that the 5600X CPU might be ok after all, but considering sending it back aswell, just to have it tested.

 

My GTX 1070 is going to be sold on, 1.3M PPD for 150 watts, not too bad. However, each of my GPU's must be capable of doing a minimum of 2M PPD, as I need to improve on the efficiency of the system. My power bill is enough to make people cry.

 

New motherboard is an MSI X570 Meg Unify. As it turns out, it has far better power delivery to the CPU, compared to my A-Pro. As a result, I removed the limitations on Precision Boost Overdrive, and let the thing sing.

Just a little update. This new motherboard is allowing my 3080 to perform better. I'm not sure why, either. I've never recalled my 3080 going anywhere near 6.5M PPD.

Hey, I'm just trying to get into the top 100. The bar was 5 Billion points a year ago and now it will be around 9 Billion when I get there in a month and a half. It's like playing wack a mole. I got from 118th down to 113 today only to be crushed by Megaware Computer who flew past at 352MPPD and I'll get up to 112 in a few days only to be kicked back down to 113th by Rutgers.

If you're doing multigpu with Nvidia you MUST have a physical core for each GPU or else it will badly bottleneck the system. If you're doing 2 GPU you need a 4 core CPU, system overhead.

Nope, unobtainium.

 

Gamers Nexus or Jayz2cents was discussing this a few days ago. Maybe was BuildZoid in one of his rambles

 

Something to do with insufficient contact to the heat sinks or back plates on some cards.

Looks like the stats on EOC are broken.  No updates for the last 3 3 hour periods.  My stats at Folding at home, however, are up to date.

 

Might be the flat files at F@H not updating but strange Jason hasn’t posted any updates on the new page
