Was looking through some old photos, and I realized just how ridiculous the wheel gap on the Corolla was before I got lowering springs, almost looked like the thing was ready for offroading!

This honestly looks like someone intentionally lifted the car higher. The fact that the tire doesnt even sit concentric with the wheel well stock is just mind boggling.

One of my friends also has a Corolla and the wheel gap looks just like when mine was stock. According to my dad, the car's never had the springs replaced, but I've always thought it was odd that the Corolla had such strange wheel fitment. Nearly every new car I see on the road today has the same wheel fitment as mine, even though I have 2 inch lowering springs with enough room to drop it another inch...

so the christmas became fun.... yes again danish so with 150-180% car tax, and 25% tax on top of that, and the owners expenses, cars are not something easy to come by, but i have bought in to the VAG platform, mostly because of the wife, who really loves VW.

 

have a 2017 B8 Passat 1.4 TFSI DSG Estate fully loaded (150HP) and a 2019 Polo GTI 200HP(6 speed manual, NEVER another DSG after the passat) so not an old setup, the Passat is however ready to be switched with a 340I BMW G20 this year..

 

but the passat hit the 2 year mark, so end of warrenty, so this is my christmas with the two cars.

 

12 december, the 9 inch infotainment system lost a FULL pixel line, it is really highres, but it i still really annoying (passat) VW did not want to support cost of repair, and it is expensive since it is somehow also paired with my dynaudio amp.

14 december. the Polo had cloudy headlights because of moistoure in them, the FULL LED setup, even though the car has 3 years and 9 months warrenty left and has run 4000km, this is "WITHIN MARGINS" and got pictures sent of headlights fully filled, and still within margins. 

16 december, water began rushing in at the window seals at the passat, at a run from Germany to Denmark, (Passat) went to the shops, he began baffling about me not closing windows, took a water hose to demonstrate that the windows were tight, and water flowed into the cabin. so nice

 

still issue left on my new polo

 

the engine lets go in smal increments in some accelerations

the sealing rattles along with the sports exhaust (known polo issue)

 

with the older Passat

 

DSG7 clutch still bad, had a bad clutch from new, got it exchanged at 23000km on warrenty (had microslip) the new one was with new material, much rougher shifts, and microslips again, just 50-100rpm, the older was 700rpm... (known issue with the dry DSG system, that it does NOT like damp areas, like Denmark, the wet DSG clutch does not have these issues, think it is the DSQ200, well the 6 speed reverse does not work in cold weather, for the ones that have it, but works fine after 2 minutes of warm up, so guess my 7 speed is not the only issue ridden one)

 

THIS IS my last VAG group car, i hate driving to the repair shop constantly, my Kia had no issues, my Mazda / Peugoet had no issues, my VAG SEAT altea FR had BUNDLES of issues.

 

but still.. damn...

I don't consider spark plugs a bolt on because they're a consumable and a mandatory part of the engine for combustion. Where as a turbo, intercooler, supercharger, air filter, exhaust, etc...are not.

Perhaps spark plugs were a bad example. Still, with a turbo there's oil lines you'd need to connect up.

Bolt on Plus? ?

Turbo I consider a bolt on as long as you have an exhaust manifold with the correct bolt pattern. 

Generally with most cars there are spare ports on the block where you can plumb in oil, and you can tee the water lines in easy enough. But is it bolt on when it also means remapping the ECU to account for the AFR changes? Thats specialist work right there...

 

I guess my idea of a 'bolt on' is not requiring fabrication or extensive physical modifications to make said bolt on fit.

 

For uprated stuff such as sparkplugs, coilpacks, injectors etc...I really refer to those more as Direct replacement.

Honestly a lot of cheap economy cars are like this.

I replaced my head unit and it turns out that was essential (oops). I’d say that’s still a bolt on.

Wait what? The warranty is only 2 years?

 

Do you mean the bumper to bumper warranty or the full warranty (bumper to bumper and drivetrain)?

Even if it is just the bumper to bumper that seems rather short, I don't know of a major car maker that doesn't do at least a 3 year bumper to bumper.

Even if it is just the bumper to bumper that seems rather short, I don't know of a major car maker that doesn't do at least a 3 year bumper to bumper.

i Europe VW has 2 years of warrenty, full warrenty 12 years of corrosion and 2 years of paint, so corrosion is full holes, through the metal, than is because of paint defects, so you will always loose that to some excuse of it must be a rock chip..

 

Kia has 7 years 6 years of paint and 12 years of corrosion, i think toyota has 3 years..

 

VAG is stingy they do fight every clain, Kia just does it, Toyota also, on the polo i have bought an extended bumper 2 bumper warrenty that is a full 4 years in total. but let us se how good this really is, the Passat is a company car, i nearly pay the same in taxation and benifit compensation as the car would cost if i bought it..

 

the fun part is, with this short warrenties, the price in Denmark is quite high.

 

the Passat in my spec has a price of 465.000dkkr and the Polo of 315.000 dkkr..

 

so in US dollars at current evaluation it is (and the dollar is quite high)

 

Passat - 70.000 Us Dollars

Polo - 47.000 US dollars

 

so it is a high risk, running German cars in Denmark, since the price does that you have to resell at a decent value.

here in Latvia for VW its 2014+ has 3 years or 100k km or 2019+ is 5 years or 100k km 
Paint defects 3 years, corrosion 1 year and accessories and spare parts is 2 years 
Have no clue why its different .... or if those are recent changes or what... but seems like you got ripped off ?

in Denmark we have a forced 2 years warrenty on all sales, electronics and all, so it is just normal warrenty on all cars 2 years, and most vendors have aligned them self with that.

most of the other suppliers have added +2 or 3 years to the normal plan to be able to fight against the Korean brands, but this is as i can see it not really factory warrenties but supported but some sort of insurance setup..

i don´t really care about the Passat, since i don´t really own it, so fuck it, it either becomes a V60 or the G20 BMW.

 

this is just how it is. now they are hammering me to do the exchange for the arteon, since they now i need to trade it in, in september, but they can forget about it.

 

It does suck since we pay so much for cars i Denmark, but that does also make the warrenty repairs expensive, because of high wages, so that is also why vendors keeps them as low as possible.

V60 would be one hell of an improvement IMO :D  

the issue with the V60 is the steering is a bit numb, the G20 drives better, but the V60 T4 Inscription is the same price as my Passat, and does the same, although i am going to miss the hifi dynaudio system, it is excellent, and the B&W in the V60 is 75.000 dkkr (the Dynaudio where 23000dkkr) thats 12.000 dollars just for a stereo. 

 

waiting a bit for the new seat leon and cupra on the new platform, seems like the wife is opening a bit up to the 300hp cupra, if it gets the B class rating in fuel consumption, so i can buy it as a company car. she loves the punch in the Polo.

I wont lie this looks like a LOT of fun. At 2800lbs it's lighter than my FWD only ST with nearly the same amount of horse power at the engine stock. A nice little ripper, but a US equivalent start price of $36K is a bit high for me. Still, you get what you pay for.

Japanese car manufacturers still dont know how to make decent car interiors imo. If I were to spend $40K on a car transmission choice and interior design is definitely something I look for first. Germans does those the best imo, as long as its either manual or ZF8HP I am down and in my opinion BMW and Audi has the best interior design cues out there. AND you can get a 3 series with $40k. This car feels a little too niche at that price point, especially in Europe.

Still a bit heavy, my choice would still be a 308GTi but it is not imported in the US ?

Golf R too. Also Minis are bigger than golfs nowadays so I am not sure if you can call them hatchbacks now.

waiting a bit for the new seat leon and cupra on the new platform, seems like the wife is opening a bit up to the 300hp cupra, if it gets the B class rating in fuel consumption, so i can buy it as a company car. she loves the punch in the Polo.
