Don't lump me in with them. I'm an enthusiast of mechanic design, be it engines, weaponry, or productive machinery. Not a guy with a wrench that reads the marketing garbage AFE/insert other "enthusiast" brand that can't legally warranty half of their products.

I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

Edit. That goes for everyone in the thread

There is the button to disable one or both if necessary. Though to be fair, Mazda's implementation seems to be fairly conservative. Even if I'm already getting a little tire slip in a turn, it won't intervene. You pretty much have to put some effort in to get the Stability Control to do something.

@TVwazhere@Real_PhillBert Managed to bump my mpg from 25 to 27 over a 700 mile trip 2 weeks ago...woo.

A question to you two though... (And anyone else with the ability to turn off traction/stability control) Do you turn off the traction/stability control system while you drive often or is it more when you are doing more spirited driving? When I remember to, I turn both off, and I'm kind of curious if there's a way to have both off when the car is started by default.

Personally I always drive without it on, unless it's snowing horrendously

ABS could be helpful ... but you do it your way :D

Threshold braking 4life. :D

Honestly, I hate ABS because it imposes on what I want the car to do. Not that I want the tires to lock up, but I find it can be too eager to activate in some situations. If you're on black ice, you shouldn't be touching the brakes anyways. ;)

For regular drivers who don't know what threshold braking is or how to do it, ABS is a savior. Just mash the brakes and you still have steering control (to an extent) and that's it's main purpose. Contrary to what many believe, ABS was never meant to shorten braking distances - but to maintain control of the vehicle under heavy braking. And that it does.

500 bucks? also my takata settlement came in yesterday, but idk if it's a cash settlement or not.

oh it looks like one of those screen protectors that has a black face, tbh you should've gotten a black home button, it would've looked much better.

that's not turbo'd is it? but i mean it's still a hot hatch i guess.

~$1000? (being optimistic)

In my Golf it's always off due to some electrical gremlin. Occasionally it will function again from time to time, but generally the lights are always on on the gauge cluster and the TCS/Stability and ABS are disabled - and that's totally fine with me. ;) Haven't bothered to try and fix it because I don't want to, lol.

It's actually right in between Terry's and mec's answer. $750.

By the way, I got something in the mail concerning a class action lawsuit involving Mazda and Takata for faulty airbags. Any idea what I do with that?

Two words, Black Ice

Funny story. When I had my Volvo (with dead ABS), I was commuting to work on a particularly cold day. During my commute through the mountains, I felt as though the car was floating a little bit on what I thought were water patches. After a bit, I came to a straightaway where I saw a pickup truck on the other side flip over and end up on the grass.

I got out to check on the truck and driver, and proceeded to slip on the pavement and almost fall. It was then I realized I had been driving on ice.

I was trying to back out of an extremely tight driveway (6 cars in one driveway, death of a loved one occurred this morning), figured I had an extra couple inches, then a minor bonk occurred with my sister's BMW. Kind of a bummer, but the car is a daily, things like that are probably inevitable.

Well at least you don't have to deal with insurance over it.

There is that. The BMW is old, and doesn't even have comprehensive, and the damage to my car is minor enough where some touch up would probably do the job.

I told my sister first thing and she wasn't mad. The BMW gets dinged enough in the parking lot where she works.

Well that worked out. Shouldve tried to j turn it!

There was about 3 inches between my Dad's pickup on the side (I had to climb through the passenger seat). And about a foot of room ahead of me and the shed. The best move would have been to not be lazy and move my sister's car first (though she moved there to make room for the mortuary van). Just 2 feet back would have been enough.
