Car Enthusiast Club [Now Motorcycle friendly!] - First thread to 150k! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Don't lump me in with them. I'm an enthusiast of mechanic design, be it engines, weaponry, or productive machinery. Not a guy with a wrench that reads the marketing garbage AFE/insert other "enthusiast" brand that can't legally warranty half of their products.

I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

Edit. That goes for everyone in the thread

So as it turns out. 1/4 throttle is all it takes to get my car to break loose. At least when its a bit greasy out.

Man my tires are shit.

@TVwazhere@Real_PhillBert Managed to bump my mpg from 25 to 27 over a 700 mile trip 2 weeks ago...woo.

A question to you two though... (And anyone else with the ability to turn off traction/stability control) Do you turn off the traction/stability control system while you drive often or is it more when you are doing more spirited driving? When I remember to, I turn both off, and I'm kind of curious if there's a way to have both off when the car is started by default.

I only remember to turn it off when spirited driving. I dont even know if there's a way to turn off one or the other individually in this case, since it's all one button. and AFAIK theres no way to have it off when you start the car. Saftey feature, yknow

Yeah, you press the button once to turn off traction control and hold the button down for like 5 seconds to turn off traction/stability control. No individual picking and choosing. It just feels better to me when you are pushing the car as the vector braking doesn't kick in. (To my knowledge)

Also, my cousin also turbo'd his SVT Focus, he did a lot of work to that thing and pushed 280k miles on the engine. He was also big into sound competitions so he also introduced me to 4000+watt subwoofer and speaker systems lol. He's also a crew member for a 15 year old race driver who recently won 1st place at one of our local tracks.

I just turn it off for fun driving and leave it alone for my daily commute. As for turning it off by default, I really dont know, there probably is a way but I dont know what that process is.

In my Golf it's always off due to some electrical gremlin. Occasionally it will function again from time to time, but generally the lights are always on on the gauge cluster and the TCS/Stability and ABS are disabled - and that's totally fine with me. ;) Haven't bothered to try and fix it because I don't want to, lol.

I lived without ABS for 2 years. I really just don't see the point of it if you know how to brake.

I guess it could be useful in very low traction scenarios though. But here? that like never happens... if it does your tires are just garbage lol

we had like 2 days where it got to the 30's (farenheit) and the rest were all 50+

out of my nearly 20 years of living here... all of 2 days we had snow. one was like nothing and it didn't even stick to the ground. the other was only a couple inches and was early in the morning and melted by the afternoon lol

I leave it on. No reason not to. If that TCS or ESC light comes on, it would be the car telling me I did something wrong. Though I hadn't had TCS/ESC activate in quite some time.

My old Volvo actually had the ABS module fail, so driving without ABS in slippery conditions is not new.
