What exactly is it that Linus Media Group does

What do Linus and his company do? I'm very interested in what exactly he does for a living and what he uses all those GPU's for (apart from youtube).

The viewers LMG gets rival a small upper-number TV channel, AND are almost a single demographic. For tech companies that typically have small margins anyway, LMG is an effective platform to advertise on and get the most for your money.

I don't actually know the rates for LMG ads (I will be inquiring myself at some point believe it or not, I might take advantage of it), but I imagine they are, on a per viewer basis, much more expensive than more broad advertising elsewhere because of the less intrusive style and likely effective results and audience feedback.

Also worth adding, unlike a TV channel that must have content 24-7 AND put butt in chairs (or DVRs) when the content airs, youtube content can be watched any time. An add on a video that stays relevant for longer on popular hardware (like an LG ultrawide or good case) means an ad that stays in effect for months maybe even years.

Also: better studio + equipment + employees = better production value = more advertising value

They review those GPUs, build systems out of them, potentially as an upgrade to office or persobal systems every so often, or they sit in a box, on a shelf forever.

They are a content creation company. YouTube IS what they do.

Nothing apart from YouTube, YouTube is their main source of income, sponsored hardware reviews, associated ad revenue, affiliate link revenue , product placement stuffs all of that , Video/Media production is their main job , They did try directly promoting products via ads they made as a media production company , but kinda lacked the required finesse like the mice ad slick & group went through that was like 3 minutes of cringe fest & also that Prius ad which was really better but was too unreal . afterwards they just went on with floatplane as major project focusing on just tech related reviews & stuff.

There is a very large percentage of the global population who still don't realise that if done right it is possible to make a living via youtube and have youtube as your job. It is a non traditional form of employment that a lot of people can't understand. 

 

The trick being that separates those who do it and make a living and those who don't is that you need to put out quality content that people actually want to watch. 

 

Take Casey Neistat for example, he films what he does throughout his day, now for a large number of people that would be pretty boring but the way he films it and edits it is enough to make his normal day to day life really watchable and interesting.
