I am a High School senior but i'm also an IT Intern, which gives me some pretty good access.

My school has a 1 to 1 program, so literally every student is provided with a laptop to use for the year. 

They are locked down pretty tight, but if you know what you're doing you can get around it.

I just popped the BIOS batteries out and I had full control then. For chromebooks I just swapped the SSD and it was unenrolled. Never caught me and you should always respect stuff that isn't yours. AKA don't mess with school stff

this is what we did, googled every VPN in existence untill one works. then you tell no one and enjoy.

 

for my school the chrome extension for tunnel bear was unblocked, but when tunnel bear became more popular they blocked it. 

 

better net worked for mobile but you had to install it at home .

 

some people would bring thumb drive with VPN softwear on it but only some worked aand some didnt

 

but for my principle of engineering class we had to use a game on steam (one made by america army and it was modified to be a school version. so you needed the steam version to use it so they unlocked steam for the POE lab and ever since then they never did that again lol. people plying gta SA and shit instead lol 

 

but also remember tamping in anyway even installing a VPN is usually against the rules and the school does have the right to take away privileges and call law enforcement (doubtful they would unless you set up a bot net using all the school computers lol)

Though, what I remember of school computers back in 2004-2008 was the security settings sucked major.  Proxy worked and most game sites where not blocked.  Heck, if you knew the sites IP, stupid firewall the school had would not block inputting that for the site.  Then again, this was an extra tech class for computers and we had one peep with a binder with 20+ pages full of proxy sites and VPNs.  :D  We may of been country kids, but boy, we where stinkers that go to lengths to work around barriers.

My programming and maintenance teacher gave literally no shits what we did, so long as our work was done first. Bang out a week of projects on Monday, fuck around Tuesday through Friday.

Yep, same with our extra IT classes we took.  Teacher actually encouraged us to break through stuff, as long as it was not super illegal though.

Heck, poor IT had no luck against all three classes: IT class, web design class, and automotive class.  If one got stuck or blocked, the other two had ideas.

My 10th grade year of high school someone figured out that Windows UAC was disabled meaning that we could run things as admin on the computers. They also had command prompt disabled too, but.... a simple batch script fixed that. People used that to use shutdown/i (a remote shutdown feature for PCs on a domain). Everyone trolled everyone because I was the one that spread it to people (that same person also taught me the shutdown/i and the batch script too). Well my English II teacher then told the administration about it and that I knew the loophole, so then after 3 trips to the assistant principal of discipline (and a threat of In-School) later they soon after fixed the loophole. Then the next year a different student got on a teachers H drive, stole test answers, and ended up expelled for 1 year plus possible charges against him (it was dismissed in court).

 

Then my 11th grade year I was taking classes at my local college (not the one I go to now) and they had a test prep class that high school students taking their classes had to take and I had the homepage of the college open and not on the ACT prep site (I was dozing off) and the next thing I knew my input was disabled and the web page was closed Then I was ticked off for some odd reason, so I hard powered off the PC in the middle of her closing it and whatever else was open (I think it was either their email or file explorer) and went back to sleep and didn't complete anything that class. Odd enough she never said anything about that to me. That class wasn't for credit or a grade anyway.

 

Now at college, I had a professor (not a Computer professor) talk about how at another University in my state that she taught at before (she is old) at how when the internet became a thing there that the President of that found out that students were watching porn on the campus internet and that the college president wanted a firewall on the network, then he got in trouble very fast (I am guessing the Department of Higher ED or the administration of that college system) and he was told that the students pay for school and that they are taxpayers too, so there shouldn't be a block on the internet (within reason like no illegal downloading and stuff). Everyone thought wow after she was done talking about that. (I have a Gigabit connection to my desktop in my dorm room :))

By using a USB stick (or burned DVD), and exploiting Window's folder shortcuts to get access to C drive, where I could execute any program regardless of restrictions. BTW, back then we were using Pentium 4, Celeron D and Pentium D based computers for Battlefield 1942, COD 1 and Halo CE with Windows XP. And the library computers were notorious for overheating and shutting down since they never received any maintenance.

This is what I did:

Download Firefox, install an "unblocker" VPN as an add-on - I don't know how this worked, but it did
In Firefox, right-click and image to set as background. This would bypass the windows 'change background' option ^_^

My school only had a PC room. We were only allowed in there when we had class there. It personally never crossed my mind to play games on these machines.

but for my principle of engineering class we had to use a game on steam (one made by america army and it was modified to be a school version. so you needed the steam version to use it so they unlocked steam for the POE lab and ever since then they never did that again lol. people plying gta SA and shit instead lol 

 

but also remember tamping in anyway even installing a VPN is usually against the rules and the school does have the right to take away privileges and call law enforcement (doubtful they would unless you set up a bot net using all the school computers lol) 

A kid here set up all the computers at school to mine bit coins. This is the same school who had a staff folder accessible to everyone that contained every password for every account for every student.

What I used to do is carry around a 2TB USB hard drive with Firefox installed on it. It worked very well.

I played openTTD for HOURS.

No installation required, runs on a potato and stuff like directX or .net weren't required. It runs on a brand new install of basically any os out there. Including XP :D

Portable games on a thumbdrive, problem solved. Nowadays you could just use your phone though, there are quite a few decent quake and doom ports for android and ios (though to get a good experience you'd need a bluetooth controller at the very least, better yet a keyboard and mouse - but those are a little conspicuous).

One thing that happened to me was that I was always being watched by the IT staff. They knew that I did stuff that I probably shouldn't be doing.

My school had some basic net nanny type thing that blocked stuff by url. One of the guys in my IT class made a basic browser with MS Word that bypassed this and had the advantage of just looking like a standard word document when it was open - they never figured this out. We also found out where on the network that the monitoring software was so you could screen cast to anyone else or just view their screen. That got removed when someone accidentally broadcast to all screens in that computer room at once, including the teachers screen, which promptly crashed her computer.

My school didn't have any protection, Pocket Tanks, NFS, CS 1.6, UT99, you name it.
