Corsair rolls out DDR4 4,600MHz memory moldules

Guest

Corsair has teamed up with a range of different manufacturers producing 4,600MHz memory kits. Corsair is calling it their "fastest ever production DDR4 memory kits". They come on 4500-4600MHz variants. These memory kits were co-developed with Asrock and feature Intel XMP 2.0 support. Both kits include low profile aluminum heatspreaders that come in a range of different colour variants and are built using 8 layer PCB.

The 4500MHz kit has CL19-19-19-39 with 1.45V power draw and the 4600MHz variant has CL19-26-26-46 with 1.5V of power draw. These kits are available in various sizes and speeds, including 3,800 MHz 128GB (8x16GB), 4,000MHz 32GB (2x16GB), 4,133MHz 32GB (4x8GB) and 4,200MHz 64GB (8X8GB). The 4,500MHz memory kit is available now on corsair's website for $480 and the 4,600MHz memory kit will be available on september 21 for $550.

The memory speeds are impressive and the prices seem reasonable as well. The thing that suprises me is that it is only compatible with the X299 platform, because I am sure that everyone knows already, ryzen processors love ram speeds.

Ryzen struggles with 3200-3600 let alone going to this speed, that's why it's for X299 :)

´Ryzen's intel equivalent would be Skylake, not Skylake-X.

How is Threadripper when it comes to RAM speeds?

True but that makes no difference either way, Ryzen loves speed but can't maintain a decent OC while having fast memory (nothing above 3600 and even then most people cap out at 3200).

I believe threadripper is the same as it's basically two ryzens glued together (in short).

The tighter timings and lower voltage make the 4500MHz kit way more appealing than the 4600MHz one. Not to mention that it's also $70 less (but not like that it matters at this price point).

But is it worth it? Do you need to run extensive bench tests to see the difference?

Extreme overclockers have had these speeds for ages by this point, I don't remember what those cost but I think it was around $400 or something. They don't really last long though

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

It's going to take a lot of work to get those to work at the rated speed on any currently available CPU. I imagine the QVL is going to be 1 board & 1 CPU for the time being. Though their website appears to lack what they've tested it to work on.

The issue is with the IMC itself, since TR is just two Ryzen dies "glued-together" it's not any better.

Probably not, you run into diminishing returns  most likely. And the price premium you'll be paying is certain to make it not worth buying.

Should have made 4GB Dimms.

Hey now we have 1.5v modules to point at for anyone that thinks 1.4 is way to much/dangerous. It's a blessing.

I'm not REEEing at the voltage . I'm pointing out the fact that they used the phrase "power draw"  when measuring in voltage , whereas power draw is actually measured in watts.

Ah. I've been REEEEE'd at for suggesting 1.4v, my mistake.

1.45 and 1.5v...these kits aren't that impressive if they need all this voltage to sustain. Call me when DDR5 is out to care.

On a somewhat related note, with that voltage and speed, this makes clown ram like the Dominators and other high profile memory kits even more pointless.

how do you even validate such high clocked ram? x299.
