Why does RAZER get a bad rep?

Sensor performance/mouse latency can all be objectively tested

I've used my Logitech G600 and the cheap jap mouse for years. The tracking on my G600 is superior. Any game where I need some accuracy is where my g600 will step in. Its just really heavy compared to the cheap one.  

 

But the thing is the cheap mouse works for nearly everything. It doesn't have any advantages(excluding price) over other high quality mouse. But as a mouse it works. Which is enough for quite alot of people.

My first blackwidow X came defective
sent it back
2nd one came defective.
sent it back for refund

bought blackwidow v2
no issues (yet)

 

they have great customer service though. i also have liek 8 razer stickers now lmao.

I have owned a few pair of death adder .

After a few months usage they all got that infamous "double clicking left button" syndrome. 

Owned a blackwidow tournament edition. That was fine though. It was still using cherry mx switches. Not those Razer made switches. 

 

The thing I can confirm is that those death adder man... google it you will realised that it is a known issue. and Razer did not do anything about it. 

If it is not broken, let's fix till it is.

They are overpriced AF.

I'll explain why:

Just a note, Cherry MX switches are better than Kalih or whatever cheap-ass chinese fake switches out there. 

 

So, a few years ago you could buy a Razer Blackwidow with MX blue switches, let's say the price was 100 bucks. Expensive, but the quality from the MX switches is really good, so the price was reasonable.

 

Anyway, at one time Razer decided to cheap out on the switches, so they got rid of the expensive and good MX switches and replaced them with cheaper and less quality kalih switches. Fine, that's up to them. BUT, they didn't change the price. That's the biggest issue.

 

The keyboard went down quality wise but they still ask the same expensive price for it...

isn't there the whole company image thing too ? I dunno if it's just me but Razer come across like Alienware to me, i picture their R+D department being a room full of teenagers who just want to make over the top stuff, but end up delivering disappointing products.

specs wise they can. Intergrated graphics for £1000. Its a macbook in specs but macbooks have stellar build quality

I can confirm i have a Razer Blackwidow Chroma V2 and that Razer does have issues, very annoying ones. So far, the only touch related issue i have encountered was the enter button (main one jumping\unclipping out three times, but not because its broken or with a defective spring\contact point, i dont even know the cause just that it hasnt happened thus far) and the really annoying issue is their software, which is utter shit.

 

I dont even use custom profiles, but the Chroma configurator always fails the load the image of the keyboard (people say its an antivirus problem and that i have to deactivate it, restart pc, etc and im like... wat? and then there is light glitching on the reactive mode or other modes with select zone\touch to light up, because for some reason the Synapse software is awful at recording colours properly and it can make the keyboard show something entirely different on those few select keys.

 

Physically speaking i like the keyboard, but the software is so subpar its actually worse than Corsair Utility Engine, which cant update by itself by giving you an error if you try to search directly through it, will display peripherals i dont even have and sometimes not even allow you to save schemes on certain products. Both softwares seems to be on some sort of stupid Alpha that they will never get out of!

 

RGB lighting on very light colors close to white shades are horribly represented and indistinguishable on both my Chroma V2 and M65 Pro RGB, but funnily enough the mousepad does whites and close to whites on an extremely good scale, miles better than the other two.

 

Their not the best, but their not the worst and are actually widely available on regions as isolated from technology as my own. On the other hand, i think this might be my first and final Razer product because of sotware and price alone, but the keyboard is great and solid overhaul (just not on a Topre level i guess, but that nothing is right?).

Razer rather over spend on marketing than on actual quality, overpriced bad products that sell solely for "bragging rights" of their brand.

I come from a very wealthy family so no when I say Razer is overpriced it isn't because I can't afford them, it is because they really are, while true costs are higher here due to protectionism it doesn't change the fact many brands such as Asus and Acer will make acceptable realistic pricing on their notebooks, Razer on the other hand is just a fucked up price tag that competes with Apple without even trying to give Apple's quality to begin with.

 

I get it when someone decides to go Apple for business because their Os has a lot of good features however a Razer makes poor sense, a Windows laptop for the cost of highest end desktops/ iMacs?

 

Just to add for the matter the Brazilian Real is the third most value currency in America only behind the usa and canadian dollar.

I think much of it stems from Razer trying to be too much like Apple, without actually being something like Apple. After having used an Apple computer for a bit and even used their customer service, I can see why people like Apple. But I can't see justifying going to Razer if they don't have the same perks.

 

Though Apple has done some questionable practices lately as well.

HAHAHAH. I can give you a mile long list why Razer is utter garbage. I know personally 8 people who have had terrible experiences with Razer. From keyboards on laptops breaking, dead units, QC issue, or worse loosing his Razer Blade Pro and not giving him a refund! HA.

Why would a company give you a refund when its your fault that you lost your product.

 

Also if you meant the laptop was given to them for repairs and then they lose it then I don't believe you even if you don't give a refund they should give you a other unit in place of it.

keyboard switches are garbage, RGB spam, verry high price for what you tend to get and so on. i personaly hate all their current mice and keyboard because they feel cheap and plasticy with a shit tone of RGB strapped to them. the death adder is poop aswell, its huge and i cant find any way to hold it that dosent either strain my hand or that feel like im about to throw it agains the wall when moveing it fast and the sensor has a lot of wander from what i could tell. the laptops are pretty nice but they are also pretty freaking expensive. the keyboard switches are inconsistent in feel and feel like shit anyway, they are just really poorly made cherry clones made by Khali which are known for shit quality in the first place. the keyboards were ok back when they used cherry swiches but now they are shit aswell

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

i have had their products for years too, starting with the copperhead mouse wich was the first "gaming mouse" i had that didn't suck ... no it really didn't suck, it was amazing and this mouse is STILL going strong to this very day.

currently, i use the 2013 orochi on my main PC and had no issues with that one other than it being a battery hog.

lucky for him they released a new version of the diamondback around that time and thats what he has now. no problems with the new one yet.

his black widow keyboard also does not have issues so far.

 

but that's only ONE side of the coin. on the other side i have seen many razer products that failed after a relatively short time.

 

 

i also had a razer krait (the old 1600dpi model) where the scroll wheel failed after being fresh out of warranty

same with my friends blue naga where the buttons went dodgy.

my 2014 black widow tournament edition wich showed debouncing issues a year after purchase.

 

that's just three products i remember from the top of my head.

 

another thing i didn't like was the switch to cloud based synapse 2.0 and how i can't find a way to manually update firmware through that.

 

having software that asks for login information first thing you start it is a trend that needs to go the fuck away in my opinion. 

 

i deleted geforce experience and synapse 2.0 from my system because both do not give me any real benefit to make up for the login shit.

 

i don't need GFE because i don't use shadowplay any more and i can "optimise" the settings for games myself, thanks

i also don' need synapse 2.0 because my tournament edition keyboard does not have extra macro buttons, no RGB lighting and nothing important to configure.

same goes for the orochi mouse - 5 buttons for standard functions + another two for DPI settings - thats it. 

 

i don't "hate" on razer yet but it is getting really hard to further recommend razer products.

 

i have the impression that the "overall" quality has gone downhill while the price for their product is still hefty.

 

i had a bunch of bad quality logitech products as well but they also didn't cost as much as a similar razer product. not by a long shot.

 

so my opinion, they better step up their quality control again to win me back as a real fan.

 

oh yeah, and stop with confusing names for new revisions ... like ... is the 2017 razer blade newer than the new razer blade or what ?

 

or stop this revision craze alltogether and just do it properly the first time.

 

i mean ... it is fashion to add minor improvements and call things "new" or "pro" because of that but it really does not help customers at all.

Did you know...

1. The Blackwidow 2013 used Cherry MX blues and was the last year Razer used Cherry? (which is the KB he has)

2. Current Blackwidows don't even use Khalih for the keyswitches :P 

 

Anyway, as an owner of a Razer Blackwidow 2013 and BF4 edition of the blacksharks, I don't actually have anything bad to say about em however, I guess I did get em back in 2014 where there were about 1000x less complaints about their products...

 

I'll continue considering razer products however the chances I'll buy something from em is rather low due to...

If I want a sleek and "nice looking" laptop, Apple has got that covered...don't judge, my school has made me heavily consider a Macbook 13" as ya'll know, MacOS>Whindows in everything bar gaming, Logitech has got me covered for mices (as G402/G502's shape is pwefect for meh), v-moda (boompro) has got it covered if I need a new headset and finally, if I need a new keyboard, Razer doesn't offer white keyboards soo.....
