7700K Overclocked to 7Ghz (On Ln2)

iRileyx

Saw that article yesterday, IMO not news worthy when they have to cheat to get up to 7GHz. I'll be more impressed if it was achieve on all 4 cores with HT enabled. They might as well aim for 10GHz on 1 core.

Im willing to bet there are no people on LTT that use LN cooling, much less using it for anything productive.

Is there any productive use for LN2 cooling at all though?

 That's a pretty big jump in logic, I think.

Skylake hit 7025 MHz in a similar attempt here: http://www.pcgamer.com/the-world-record-skylake-overclock-is-an-insane-7ghz/

And 5 GHz is practically unheard of on Skylake, let alone 6 GHz.

5ghz is rare, but not unheard of. @Lays runs his at 5ghz 24/7, but it requires a lot of effort to achieve it. Binned chips, delids, custom loops, etc. Average OC for the 6700k is 4.7ghz I believe.

Give me "real world" overclocking info, I want to see an average chip hitting 5ghz on water with all cores on and then i will be interested.

It's on only 2 cores and 2 threads.

Also that looks like Windows 7 with the built in "classic" theme, a lot of businesses use that.

That is Win7 with classic theme to reduce video needs probably because the build didn't have a GPU to reduce variables and less work with the nitrogen, so to help on stability throw the littlest possible of load in the iGPU.
Windows ME would crash at 7ghz.

Its version 1.78.1 of CPU-Z. That's the latest version available. It was released in november. The version history says it added support for:

  • Intel Kaby Lake processors
  • AMD Embedded G and R-series processors
  • DMP Vortex86 DX3

Also, that's the classic theme in Windows 7:

Very true. i'm never going to own a drag racing car, but its cool to see how far they can be pushed before being at their limits, similar to the whole LN2 overclocking scene.

How about you wait until you see some benchmarks?

Because surely we can tell how well an unreleased chip will perform. Also, your hopes are too high.

Hurray for overclocks that have absolutely zero practicality for the average end user.

Impressive feat though. This means 5ghz will be easily attainable on air.

You saw some benchmarks.. from AMD themselves. Now, they're promoting this product, and want it to do well. Don't you think that they could be tweaking them slightly? Don't get me wrong, I have my hopes up for Zen, but I'm waiting for reviewer benchmarks to see the actual performance.
