[Confirmed False] Spotify hates WIndows Phone and will stop updating their app for it.

Update:

Spotify saw how angry people were and are now doing Damage Control. They have said that Windows 10 Mobile users will receive a Spotify update soon and that they still somewhat care about WP despite their previous announcement.

 

Here's what they had to say:

To clarify our recent information regarding the Windows Phone experience,

we will continue supporting the Windows Phone 8.1 experience moving forward and we are actually improving our support for Windows 10 in our coming update 5.2,

which will be available starting today

 

 

 

So......... Yeah.

 

I think they originally meant that Windows Phone 8 would no longer be supported and that Windows Phone 8.1 or newer would be needed for future updates.  However they're wording didn't help anybody understand.

WTF SPOTIFY! AHhh! Mothertruckers. I paid for 6 months of premium for this? WTF. I'm seriously going to consider not renewing subscription.

 

This is what Spotify had to say:

and this is what Windows Central had to say

The app is still available in the Windows Store and it will also work on

Windows 10 Mobile

. Spotify would not comment on it will release a native app for Windows 10 for PC Mobile, saying only, "as there is something new, you will receive a notification on your device that an update is available and prompted to download it."

 

 

OMG Spotify! Are you high? WTF?

Spotify on Windows 10 Mobile is currently so terrible it makes me want to cry. It takes forever to open the app, and even longer if it's already open in the background. When the app is finally open, you'll have to wait another few minutes to open up a playlist. That is, when the list of playlists are done loading.

 

Sometimes, it's so rage inducing, even Jesus would turn violent...

This sucks for the 3% of all smartphone users who have a win phone and want to use spotify I guess. Given how Windows phone keeps losing market share and is slowly fading into obscurity, I'm neither surprised or mad.

Yet nowhere in the source does it say that Spotify has commented negatively on the platform.

 

Only thing happening is they're cutting support for a dead platform. And before you scream and shout it's not dead, Windows Phone 8 and all related versions are dead. The app in question was created for WP8 according to the article. 

 

It's very likely a UWP app is in the making.

Wow, I'm not the only person who uses a Windows Phone (Despite hating M$ with a passion. The actual UI is quite nice, for the purpose of being a phone. Unlike android which I just find obnoxious).

If they are actually in the process of making a Universal app, it better be as full featured as the IOS version because god damn what a world of differences in quality the app is between both platform.

I can understand why they aren't supporting the platform with their current app anymore, with Windows Phone having a tiny fraction of the market and all. It was probably a business decision because the amount of usage on that platform wasn't worth spending the money on. However, it's not completely unlikely that they will use their existing iOS app + UWP Bridge to release a new version.

Spotify Windows Phone users have barely been acknowledged until now.

Spotify on Windows 10 Mobile is currently so terrible it makes me want to cry. It takes forever to open the app, and even longer if it's already open in the background. When the app is finally open, you'll have to wait another few minutes to open up a playlist. That is, when the list of playlists are done loading.

 

Sometimes, it's so rage inducing, even Jesus would turn violent...

I actually have a rather smooth experience with their current app on my L920. or maybe I'm just used to how my phone/Windows Phone is. 

 

back to topic.  as much as I feel that WP  is a decent OS.  I think Spotify pulling out support is telling and indicative of how most developers feel about the platform. that it's not worth really the effort. Most people don't remember, but WP8 had UWP as well (tho not as easy as it is now) I mean sure they might be making a windows 10 UWP now.  but I think it speaks loads.  that they're not supporting the current WP8 version.  1) they either are okay with the level of stability of that version. or 2) they're saving money by pulling out of a sinking platform with no real future in sight.
