There's nothing you can do when you don't have any means of fool-proofness on a PC - just reformat the drive and next time use an AV.

You mean "hacked". And I'm almost sure that's not how it happened; your friend probablty inadvertently deleted the files or formatted the hdd and then blamed imaginary hackers because he didn't realize what he had done, or was trying to cover his ass.

 

There's nothing you can do now other than try to recover the files with a recovery tool. Don't write anything on the hdd before you try to recover files. It is impossible to know who did it and if he got the data, he now has it and there's nothing you can do about it.

You guys are native english speakers. Grow up. Not everyone speaks, reads or writes english as first language. Or even second language (mine is supposed to be swedish which I speak worse than english). In fact even better english speakers tend to forget dots and commas when they panic after situation like this.

I can understand bit fooling around when it comes from foreigners. Like the first two with the "Speak <language>" joke (India and Bulgaria). Not from UK, CAN, USA, AUS or NZ users.
