Hitachi says it can predict crimes before they happen

Hitachi developed a robust new technology that can pinpoint where and when a crime will occur. The system, called Hitachi Visualization Predictive Crime Analytics, gobbles massive amounts of data—from public transit maps, social media conversations, weather reports, and more—and uses machine learning to find patterns that humans can’t pick out. Hitachi system doesn’t need anyone to fiddle around with correlations and variable weights. Given a heap of data, it does it by itself. The system can specify potential crime scenes down to a 200-square-meter spot, and it assigns relative threat levels to every situation.

 

Now i guess world will be a safer place..I guess media will be the first customers, so that they can cover the crime.. Hope no one will use the software to find crime so as to take a selfie...This reminds me of TV series Numbers..Imagine getting arrested for the crime you have not planned yet

This should only mean less people get charged because the crime was prevented from happening... Unless we become the Thought Police and charge people before they do crimes now

Don't know how it can predict crime. What if it throws a false positive out and due to rule changes in police enforcement a innocent person gets life in prison?
