Hitachi says it can predict crimes before they happen

jos

You are being watched. The government has a secret system: a machine that spies on you every hour of every day....

Still waiting for those surveillance drones disguised as insects from DBZ to be a thing.

In the movie, weren't they using humans to find crime...not software?

Yes, they were using humans
to find crime. But the idea from the movie and this is exactly the same. Doesn't matter whos or what is doing the prediction. As for the crimes about get committed. I wonder if this is going to predict, sneaking into neighbor's garden to steal some turnips.

Don't forget anyone asking too many questions, or anyone who disagrees with the new world order.

this could actually be cool honestly, see a higher police presence in those areas and catch the crime as it happens.  obviously dont arrest people before they do anything. but it could reduce the number of crimes that get away with it

Oh, yes, that will certainly be a crime. And, well, if it isn't a crime by then they will still use the software to find you and get rid of you.

Well, I was asking because I believe the difference is stark. Beyond the idea, Watch_Dogs and Person of Interest resemble this far more, so I was gonna point that out. :P

If they get it to work right and to accurately predict crime, you can expect them to predict you thinking about stealing someone's property. The thought will be evidence enough by then, regardless of if you actually did it.

I actually recently watched a youtube video that talked a bit about this. If you want to hear just about the crime prediction skip to around 7:24:

She only really talks about burglary but I think it will give you an idea of what their methodology is like.

funny, this should be scanning on other government agencies , but they're the righteous guys so they're exceptions to law right?

at the time of the movies, Intel and AMD had yet to release a powerful enough CPU.

So they used a bio-technology based system, because that was readily availible and easier to implement.

In before the system gets called racist because it warns about potential crimes in ghettos 24/7.

At least that's what happened when Microsoft patented a way to make GPSes avoid areas with high crime rates when it gave suggestions on walking routes.

Is not racist, skin color is not the only variable you have to take into account when dealing with crime.
