No at that time when I bought it I was new to firearms.  A friend of mine who has vaults of firearms and ammo helped me out.

You might have to tell him to give me some ammo so i can make a fortune 😉

Got a small case of some vintage ammo today.  Still trying to decide if I want to open it or keep it sealed for a display piece.  360 rounds of .303 British.

Does that vintage of ammo still have cordite?  I have a bunch of 7.62x54r in spam cans but I haven't put a round through my Mosin in a decade, so some of my ammo should just get sold.

My Current Setup:

AMD Ryzen 5900X

Kingston HyperX Fury 3200mhz 2x16GB

MSI B450 Gaming Plus

Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo

EVGA RTX 3060 Ti XC

Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB

WD 5400RPM 2TB

EVGA G3 750W

Corsair Carbide 300R

Yeah. As goofy as it sounds, I watched Enemy at the Gates once and decided I'd buy one; At a gun show I found an FFL with one for $79. Well, that sparked an interest in milsurp rifles and I have since bought and sold quite a few of them. My favorite milsurp is my Springfield M1884 Trapdoor, I load original-pressure-equivalent .45-70 for it. If I can ever manage it, I'd like to take the old guy out to a whitetail deer hunt. I bought it in packing grease and I'm fairly certain it was never issued or at most saw very limited use.

Yeah, this was back in 2006. I know you cannot even pick up a haggard rifle now for less than about $275, and that's just the last time I went looking for one. They could be $350 now for all I know.

Milsurps and ammo used to be cheap, at least Mosins were. The very nice Mosin I have now was $139 because I was picky about condition. At the time that was way up on the high-end of price for something that wasn't a Finnish rework or rare like a Chatellerault or Remington-produced rifle. Also, my friends and I were buying 440 round spam cans for $39 all day. I think about all the deals I passed-on at the time thinking I'd just buy one later...

That's a good question I didn't have an answer for.  I didn't open the sealed case but I had 5 loose rounds of Kynoch made .303 brit that was dated 1931 so 3 years older than what should be in the sealed can.  I pulled the bullet and dumped the powder and it looks like any modern flake powder.  Dark grey, almost black, with a grain size similar to a modern pistol powder.  Didn't think to weight the charge before dumping it in the waste powder can but I weighed the bullet and it is 173gr and non-magnetic. I also have a couple grenade blanks that are dated from 1942 with a Bwd-arrow.pngE (Ministry of Supply Factory, Blackpole, Worcs,)  headstamp.  It had a slightly larger yellow, waxy looking flake powder in it behind a stack of cardboard wads, I set the bullet in the scale pan with the powder from the blank round to give a size representation of the stuff.  See pictures below.

Well, since the thread kind of died off again, time to revive it once more.  Palmetto State Armory is looking to import all the equipment and hire the necessary people to begin producing steel cased ammo.  Now that the Former Vice President has banned importing of ammo and firearms from Russia, it's even more relevant, though apparently this was initiated before the ban was put in place.  Unfortunately, they won't be up and running until 2023.  Still, it's a step in the right direction.

I had seen that the other day as well.  Hopefully they can pull it off and get domestic production started.

I have put some rounds through a PS90, it's a neat design and the 50 round magazines are quite unique. It's a booger of a cartridge to handload, so the person I knew that had the PS90 sold it when ammo prices went up and FN was the only one that sold it.

No need to fuss about with an FN now.  For 3" longer, you can get a 5.56, standard mags, and much better ammo downrange.  Oh, and it apparently kicks far less than a PS90 too.

Figured this fits here better even though it might be seen as bad form to some gun enthusiasts.  I had/have a C96 Mauser pistol, it's got a very bad barrel, cracked bolt face and a missing firing pin.  Wasn't cost effective to restore to a safe shooting state so I did the next best thing.  DL-44 blaster.  There are a couple small touchup items that need done yet to try and color match the new parts to a worn out roughly 110 year old pistol but it is looking good so far.

Maybe I'm a little biased but this makes me sad.  These things go for 3-8k. I'd think it could be fixed for less than that.

Believe me, I had paid $250 for the gun around 10 years ago thinking I could fix it and it was a very long time before deciding to do this too it (Last month).  The amount of work needed to make it safe to shoot again would have meant the value was not in it.  A good shooting example with nice bluing might be a few thousand but this thing would have needed almost $1K in repairs and thats not even getting it polished and re-blued.  I had stopped it from rusting when I first got it but here is a view with the flash turned on that really highlights how much rust was on the inside of this thing.  The second picture is the inside of the barrel when someone had tried to repair it in the past by re-sleeving the bore and it failed.

I have one of those EP9's, bought direct and shipped to a local FFL.  It's not super spectacular, but it's pretty decent for the price.

I did not expect it to be the shooter it was, for the price and...amount of polymer and the one pin holding the bolt together lol.

But the SOB also held together like a champ!  With good sights on it, its quite an accurate shooter for the price

Travel restrictions are lifted so when is Linus finally going to do a collab with Ian from Forgotten Weapons?  I just noticed this thread and figured it was relevant.  I was one of the many patreons that bugged Ian into getting on Floatplane.

I'm sure Ian could use a new editing computer or NAS and Linus could get some trigger time with some cool guns.

Im editing the video tonight but.....

I had:

Failure to Fires, multiple - once I review tape Im going to get percentage (using CCI and Hornady ammo)

Tumbles - surprised, new barrels dont care how short they are

No accuracy (atrocious lol) - and no algorithm to overcome the way it fires from what I could see.  And it always shot 8-12" high at 15 feet.

No way will I ever carry this gun - would have to retrain how you draw a gun due to trigger design

So for a week I carried it and...the design is so foreign that I will/would refuse to change how I learn to draw my weapon.  All in all 0/10 for me.

Yes no, on this gun it doesnt matter, trigger takes 10 yards and 50 lbs of pressure to pull it back.  You would have to snag the gun up and force this action (I did not have any issue with drawing from holster to fireready position)

In the end - for me - in all things gun safety related the grey matter between your ears is the ONLY safety that matters - dont use that one, no amount of safeties in the world are going to help you lol.
