You know that AutoCad on iPad is a slimmed down version, right?

 

It's just an Autocad360 which the current ipad can run just fine.. Even my old 3rd gen i3 laptop ran fine on a proper FULL Autocad software.. They hyped the autocad part a lil bit imo.

Something tells me @GoodBytes is a bit annoyed that Apple is kind of copying Microsoft and people will think it's the best thing ever.

 

 

At 800 dollars for the 32GB model I don't think it makes any sense whatsoever. If you want a tablet for productivity then just get the Surface.

I am pretty sure 95% of the people getting it will only get it because they want the most expensive thing Apple has to offer.

I missed that part of the keynote but my guess is that it could do that thanks to a really beefy video decoding block. Laptops usually don't have that because there hasn't been any point in supporting that up until now. Encoding is probably done in hardware too.

You could probably do the same things (possibly even better) on some entry level Intel chips these days thanks to QuickSync. The vast majority of the 80% Apple claims to be faster than are probably really old chips though, and a lot of them are probably Atom processors in super cheap netbooks. So they won't support that.

 

I wish they would have compared the iPad against new products at similar price points instead of comparing it to my mom's old Celeron laptop that's like 8 years old and was half the price of this iPad Pro.

I think that 80% number would have been far lower if they did that.

I present to you our 800 dollar tablet faster then all 400 dollar portable laptops but probably on par or beaten by most 600 dollar and up laptops, doesn't really have the same ring to it

You have 3 companies: N-Trig, Wacom, and Synaptic. (Well, technically Nvidia too, but that is for only for its Tegra chip).

N-Trig is best for note taking

Wacom is best for drawing, but Wacom never license its best technology.

Synaptic is awful. Only good at pointing on the screen really. But their technology got better where you can actually use the pen to draw.

Synaptic has 1 button and no eraser.

Wacom has 1 or 2 buttons and eraser.

N-Trig has 2 button, no eraser. (Surface Pro 3 and Surface 3 pens, the eraser is bluetooth remote embedded inside the pen).

But then again, its Apple, they pick what ever they want and not put the button.

They also probably did their own implement with a license from any company for the technology system.

(yes, I agree. I have Win10 on my SP2, and my SP2 is getting a pain to use. I might revert back to Win8.1.. I am not really using Windows 10 new features on it in any case. I don't know about you?)

256 should be the minimum yes. We have to wait and see for the details.

Microsoft is doing this. Note and drawing. SP2 was really focusing on that, especially that it had Wacom pen, but it didn't do much in terms of sales. With the focus on note taking, is what pushed sales. SP2 rev2 has the same hardware as the SP3, just thicker and heavier, but has a dual heatsink and fan, so SP2 rev 2 is technically faster, as it throttles less under heavy load.

also important is that the Wacom digitizer is a fairly thick layer, so that maybe a reason for them to have gone with synaptic. And 256 pressure levels for my note taking seems to be perfect.

As for Win10, I mostly missed my amazing charms bar, easy access to screen brightness and shutdown. I reverted back from 10 as soon as I started to miss those parts (never realised I used them so much)

Let me see, the Surface Pro can run x86 programs-no ARM CPU matches the one used. The Surface (RT and Pro) have track pads in the keyboard cover. It costs less. The stylus does the same things. It costs less. Microsoft Surface all have a fully functional USB 2.0 port as Microsoft hasn't gone full retard in the pursuit of thinner slates/tablets. The Surface 3/3 Pro run full versions of Windows enabling Windows programs to be used on them.  The Surface has similar battery life.

 

 

 

There there Apple, no need to feel so sad about getting rekt. Its not like all of your other attempts at copying have been failures, just 90% of them.

I don't see the point of this, other than to try stealing a slice of the Surface pie. If you want a "serious" productivity tablet, get a Surface Pro 3. A 128GB/Core i5 SP3 with all the accessories is $100 cheaper than the iPad Pro with all the accessories, and has the added benefits of backwards compatibility all the way back to Windows 95 and it's running a full desktop OS on an x86-64 CPU, with more RAM, expandable storage and easy to obtain cloud storage (seriously, Microsoft hands out OneDrive storage like it's candy), a built-in USB port and Mini-DisplayPort to go along with that too.

 

There's no reason for the iPad Pro to exist other than to attempt to one-up the Surface Pro 3, and it failed to do so before it even launched. That's pretty amazing.

I think what most people in this thread are missing is although the iPad Pro clearly isn't as powerful or capable as a Surface Pro 3 in all likelihood the iPad will end up being able to do more. Here's the thing, and Apple must know this, they don't have to make it do all the things it might be used for out of the box since developers from other companies will do that. Although there are plenty of developers who make stuff for Windows how many of them are actually actively working to develop applications specifically targeted for the Surface experience? Probably a lot fewer than will end up developing for the iPad Pro. So even though it doesn't run x86 apps it's probably not going to end up being an issue for them since developers will be tripping over themselves to make that iPad Pro App that they can sell for a nice high price to a bunch of people in the Apple App Store.
