Skyrim modders were not happy with the paid mods + petition against it

I am not one to speculate, but I feel very much like they will remove this paid mods stuff.
Of course you still have access to the mod if you have bought it
 
If you haven't heard it yet, Valve/Steam made it so that you can make paid mods in the Workshop. They first activated it in Skyrim.

I just got home and browsed the Skyrim Nexus (it's kinda daily thing for me) and saw a few mods that were not that positive about it.
Here are some pics and quotes from the description.
 

Let me explain, steam has now made it so that you had to pay 3-5 bucks for mods. I made this mod to voice my opinion on Pay 2 Mod and for some fucking reason the mod got banned, so now here i am. This mod adds lord gaben into the game just so you can kill him, and he can be found in riverwood. This adds a very basic new NPC to the game. She is a beggar.
 Her name is Beth, and all she does is sit around outside Whiterun waiting for you to give her some money. 

 She actually seems to be pretty well-off already, based on her expensive clothes and jewelry, 
 but rain or shine you can find her out there begging for more money with a smile on her face. 
 Regardless of her situation, she will accept every coin you feel like throwing her way.

The NPC is called Beth, referencing Bethesda and she is sitting on a Valve. 

This is pure gold to me.

Personally mods should be free and you should be able to donate.

It is fucking retarded and now the biggest resource creators are threatening to quit. Good going valve you fucking greedy cunts. YOU COULD HAVE JUST ADDED A FUCKING TIP JAR! It has split the modding community, which has been alive and united much longer than valve has been a company. 

 

I'll be making a voice-acted quest mod to kill gaben, as opposed to making a single character.

 

Being greedy fucks trying to make money off of community work for a 4 year old game that doesn't belong to them. Even if this was acceptible the mod creator only gets a 25% cut and only after selling $400 worth. If they sell $399 then valve and bethesda keep it all.

That isn't the issue. The issue is the precedent that it sets for ES6/FO4. If people don't show outrage now then the beginning of those games modding lives will be riddled with this filth.

ES0 was made by an entirely different team than the ones who make the single player games. It was made by ZOS. Elder scrolls games have followed a 5 year release cycle since daggerfall. The schedule lines up with it being released later this year or early next year.

On the Skyrim Nexus (pretty much the number one place for Skyrim mods) they have a donate function.

They could have added that and nobody would have minded.

On your link a guy makes a good point about any using SKSE being required to be free.

That's a good way to fight this, not change.org nonsense. Those things will only make you feel empowered but not really accomplishing anything at all.

Hardly. Pretty much the opposite is true. It is a decent MMO that hardly shows any aspect of elder scrolls. It pissed off both MMO fans and elder scrolls fans. I am a fan of both.
