As to the lens, I got it from Japan, off eBay. I had heard that you should stay away from camera bodies and lenses listed in Japan, and I can see why. This lens was listed in A++ mint condition, and it was far from it. A stateside camera reseller would list it in C condition. Yeah, it works, but it was far far far from mint.

Normally Japan sellers are very strict when reselling.

My camera was in really good condition when map camera said it was second to last in bad.

I guess it depends on the reseller.

The answer was yes, for as primitive as the LCD screen is, the output from the camera was exactly as I had planned.
But then again I have extensive experience in the photography field, so the lack of a useful LCD screen was not an issue for me.

I usually keep the lcd flipped into the camera so I never use it unless reviewing or iso settings.

Other drawback? There are only 7 auto-focus points, so there will be some thinking involved on where you want the focal point to be, and probably some readjustment of the tripod.

Coming from a XTi I know that pain.

The controls are...arcane, even for Canon standards who have changed major control layouts at least 3 times in their dSLR lines. It interrupts my thoughts and concentration to have to fiddle with the controls, but as I've mentioned before, I'm heavily invested in the Nikon Way and re-training my muscle memory for the camera

Rebal lineup always has a different layout.

I actually find it harder to navigate lower end nikion cameras.

Those Nikon interfaces, blow goats. It's like Nikon saw how bad the low-end old Canons were and decided to one up them.

I have heard this tossed about, but on the lenses I've looked at on eBay that are in Japan, this has not been my experience, dunno. At least the glass itself good, which is the part that matters.

I can say the same of yours.

Welp, here's a shot of the moon that was shot on a 55mm Lens. Had a particularly clear day and I wanted to see how far I could push this lens using the RAW Image format: IMG_0358.thumb.png.6e37ee02835a4c35d4f214d6de444f4c.png

Turns out quite a bit actually. And here's a picture that I'm actually pretty proud of, altho I probably could've done a bit (a lot) better on the post-processing of it: IMG_0367.thumb.png.b69fc64dff8e3bef561999a112563d78.png

8/10; While I like the composition, I think perhaps the shot with colors would look better than it being in B&W, though that's of course, somewhat subjective.

A generic shot of my PS Vita, not my proudest work but I'm quite happy with it.

I made a thing.

This is more of a proof of concept than a final image; I just wanted to see if I could do it. The next step is to figure out how to do it well. I had to crop in a lot, so the resulting file is pretty low-res. I'll probably rent the gear I need to get a better image since I don't see myself doing tonnes of Andromeda photos. I can rent something decent for about $100 a night. I'll probably go with a Canon 80D and the 100-400mm so I can get a 5.6 aperture; that gives me a 600mm FF equivalent. I could rent the Nikon 200-400mm f4, but it's too heavy for my star tracker; plus, my bahtinov mask wouldn't fit on it. A star tracker with a higher payload capacity runs about $1000 CAD anyway, so at that point I'd be more inclined to just buy a telescope.

Lovely watch and very nice pictures, I especially like the first one as it brings in a lot of depth of field with the wrist band.

I have been fortunate enough to work with a good friend of mine to capture his racing season this year, I have always been interested in motorsport photography and this was the first season for me as a 'professional' I learned a lot in those 10 months!

The picture was taken through the passenger side window, so with some clever positioning you could get all sorts of reflections.

Taken with my new (well, new to me) Nikon D1x with ultra rare buffer upgrade.

The D1x was released in 2001, putting it at 20 years old

Shot with a Tamron 90mm f/2.8 Macro

f/5.6, 1/30 sec shutter, ISO 125 (the lowest the old D1x will go) and Auto White balance.

No post work done. What you see is what I shot.

If you don't like this thread then stop reading it. See how stupid it is? It's basically like telling someone "shut the fuck up". Yes, one of the very first widely available digital SLRs ever available.

I was using a macro lens, which means ultra narrow depth of field, and yes, using something like f/22 would bring it into focus.
