Urine can be used as an energy resource

yorky321

"If 400 milligrams of urine carbon can be extracted from 1 litre of urine and a single person can generate up to 5.6 grams (0.2 ounces), scientists may have found an endless supply of energy."

So apparently by super heating urine for hours thus carbonizing it, apparently makes for a great fuel cell catalyst.

I can just imagine in the future our electric cars running out of juice so you just pull over, open the flap and "fill her up" so to speak. (LOL)

Interesting research nevertheless.

I would happily apply to be a professional urinator.

But it needs to be heated first, so you're spending energy to get what I'll assume it's little in return.

That's interesting actually. I wonder if the they have an efficient way to heat it that makes it so that they get more energy out than what they put in. Probably not though

Solar heating? Like solar panels, but used to heat up the urine to temperatures needed without use of energy :D And it is also way cheaper than solar panels too!

I thought this was old news, also the requirement to heat it wastes all profit for sure with current tech.

(physichs rule; nothing can be 100% efficient.)

May the light have your back and your ISO low.

ok, article is about them replacing the platinum in full cells with carbon from urine.

Not so much about making energy but making full cells much cheaper. Which is still pretty good news :)

I think they used to make matches out of urine because it has a very high phosphorus content so makes sense, but hardly new knowledge...

Urine can also break down chlorine gas.

In WWI, frontline soldiers being gassed with Chlorine were advised to urinate in their handkerchiefs and tie them around their faces.

Does this mean some of those seedy European porn movies can now legitimately apply for environmental technology grants?

Urine is nothing but filtered blood. As is saliva.

Urine is nothing but filtered blood. As is saliva.

But the only thing that will be a bigger nightmare to market than urine powered machines are blood powered machines.
