Samsung is reportedly entering the smart ring market

Ltexprs

Summary

Samsung has filed patents and is reportedly in the process of creating a Smart Ring.

Reports from South Korea claim that Samsung has started the development of a smart ring that users can wear to monitor their activity and health. The company is reportedly working with multiple firms to secure the required parts and modules. Last year, the firm even applied for a patent with the USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office) for a smart ring that features an optical heart rate monitor and an ECG (Electrocardiograph) sensor. It can also be used to control a smartphone, tablet, or TV

My thoughts

I think this is great news coming out from Samsung to be competing with Oura in the smart ring space. Linus has said in the past that he loves his Oura ring, and while I am interested in having a smart ring, Oura's implementation of a monthly membership fee to be able to use the device didn't sit well for me. As a Samsung user I absolutely love the ecosystem and can't wait for it to be expanded further with a smart ring, and hopefully Samsung doesn't use the subscription model that Oura is using and makes it a free service like it is with all their other health Tracker's.

They've been things for a while — the question is whether or not Samsung can do anything Oura can't. Apart from tight integration with Galaxy phones, I'm not so sure.

I love the concept, but not a fan of rings as a whole. Having something on my finger, all the time, ain't for me. Have your finger swell up a bit, suddenly you can't take it off and... Nope nope nope.

Interesting. I'd totally be down as long as it worked well and wasn't ridiculously expensive. They do need to improve their tracking though. Maybe this will be that step.

Cheaper monthly pricing. That alone would be great. Plus it'll likely be cheaper as they have far stronger buying power.

I understand it fully..... it's really not that complicated.

Just because something isn't made for me, doesn't mean I can't think it's stupid.

There is a reason I dont wear my wedding ring, degloving is a thing, and besides how are they going to make this thing thin enough to be comfortable enough to wear? I work with my hands constantly and rings just get in my way. I dont even need or use the health function of my watch. Ive always been in good health I am damn sure I dont need a watch or ring to tell my heart is beating, im still alive aren't I?

At the wake of smart watches i said i don't need a watch to tell me how much I've run or how long I've run, i know the size the football field i usually practice  in and the distance of the tracks I comonly have been using for the past decade. they said I was crazy, this is the future, its not meant for me.

What about smart butt plugs? Could do all the same things, take accurate body temperature, analyze stool, diet, digestive tract health

This would ACTUALLY be useful! And funnily enough probably MORE useful than most wearables. 🤪 Colon cancer is very serious!
